The way I see it is that with Lovesexy, Prince was allowing you into his revelation which made it very easy for one to make up their own mind on how to accept the message. With TRC he seems to be using a very non-inclusive approach which turns many of us off, considering his legacy of being open and free. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

When you're younger, surely it's easier to be open to ideas. To not really know where you're at. Uptown, that was his spirit and he frowned upon society's boundaries. As he's grown older and wiser, he has found his truth. Some feel that truth doesn't respect theirs.

I still see TRC as open minded... Considering the dark context these days, I understand that the album is more "angry" and straightforward... That's why the sticker says it's the new controersial Album by Prince... "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always"

I haven't bought The Rainbow Children but from what I've downloaded off the internet and reading some of the lyrics online, there is no comparison. I still don't think I'll purchase it.
Lovesexy = Love through spirituality and spirituality through love The Rainbow Children = Religion. Just because Prince's spirituality throughout Lovesexy manifests itself as apertaining to the Christian religion, he could have easily been name-dropping Buddah if he were a Hare Krishna or Mohammed if he were a Muslim. Lovesexy is about spirituality - not a specific religion.

I'm with Anji, not being racial or controversial doesn't equal "better". Some of Prince's (and other artists) most racial/controversial works are the best things he's ever done. Of course he was freakin naked sitting on a flower on the cover of Lovesexy. That alone made it controversial for the time. p.s. I totally feel you guys on the idea that TRC is less "inclusive" that Lovesexy. Lovesexy is definitely easier to take. That said, I dig the idea that he's not afraid to express his beliefs, even if they don't agree with mine or anyone else's. Actually that's a trait of his I've liked for a long time. . i think that "rainbow children" was the next logical step from "lovesexy"... the openness in "lovesexy" was great for that record... but you can't keep doing that forever, or it starts sounding bland... too vague and too general... so, it was natural for the next step to be more exclusive...
i like both records... i don't feel the racist vibes that a lot people get from TRC either... it feels like a very positive record to me... i like it... Candy Dulfer is my boo...

Lovesexy = Love for God without accurate knowledge of who God is and how he wants us to show our love for Him
The Rainbow Children = Love for God (Jehovah) and Jesus based on accurate knowledge found in God's word the Bible

dude JEHOVAH is synominous with GOD in the religion.

i Still don't or won't see this blatent JW message that everyone else sees. sombody else (EllisDee)said it b4 " if people didn't know that prince was hanging out with the JW's, nobody would be saying all that shit about TRC..." and if you anti-TRC peple are referring to the overladden voice (the spiritual guide) then hasn't this voice been heard before as far back as "Temptation" '85 and "Spooky Electric" 87-88. oohh but there goes the Lovsexy connection again. If u hear the message, agree with the message, then cool. I u don't hear the message, don't agree with the message then cool... We are all family here, no? YES (circa 1988, Lovesexy--the "yes" part)

YES (circa 1988, Lovesexy--the "yes" part) exactly... i think "rainbow children" is equally as positive and uplifting as "lovesexy" was... i've seen a lot people say that TRC is a downer because there are some not so feel-good topics covered on TRC (racism and slavery, for example)... that's life people... furthermore, "lovesexy" covered some very real and not-so-uplifting topics on it as well... "grenade launcher roars in a television sky tell me how many young brothers must die" "stealing ladies purses then setting them a-flame m&m killers playing mickey mouse games" "call people magazine, rolling stone call your next of kin, cuz your ass is gone he's got a 57 mag with the price tag still on the side" these are not very uplifting lyrics, and are no darker than the stuff on TRC... both albums have their uplifting lyrics and they're darker social realism lyrics... i think people dwell on the stuff mentioned in TRC, because people are still not able to come to terms with the racist bullshit of the world- both past and present... so there it is for all to see... I'll go with what I took away from the "Live Experience's" loving how he mixed in Love is God, God is love...Positivity->YES I'm talking about a new drug...the first half is over can we go on 2 something else? Can I feel something else? Can I B something else? Can I love something else? ...ETC, Boy I'm tellin U in "88" the Lovesexy Tour 4 me really made me feel a New Power so 2 speak.
2 me it was a very solid dose of enlightenment without going overbord. He was indeed on that uplifting mission of touching souls as he performed so genius. It was spiritual moving & entertaining as hell, all the while ripping powerful solos in the round* One Nite Alone, was out of this world fantastic in the sense of being much more personal. No big props lighting, dancers, rappers were needed. As this 2 me was about a man his music & message, as well a new mission...He was putting on a display of live music at its finest. Thou the music was played brilliant sounding crisp & clear...His voice sounding far better then ever as did his guitar playing... But when he got 2 talking or preaching about this or that..."Xmas/Santa" etc...I wasn't feelin all that talk. I respected his honest feelings & thoughts 100%... but in terms of his religious content he spoke about that nite I couldn't connect 2 it, as I felt connected 2 his Lovesexy theme. His vision & thinking was way different...And so my feeling here is that the Rainbow Childern is far deeper & complexed as well as weighted down with his new beliefs..some may call it preachy. Like someone posted that Lovesexy felt more welcoming ...It was much easier 2 get into and support as a whole. What's talked about these dayz I can't say I really dig all the way end 2 end...I have 2 really pick through what it is I dig and don't... 88 Oakland Prince: "Oakland ya'll got 2 stop kicking eachothers ass out here" 02 Portland Prince: "Rise up" <--I can see eye 2 eye with all that*
