The Morning Papers I decided to listen to the love symbol album just the other day. I would usually skip over that song "The Morning Papers", but I decided to go ahead and listen to it. I found out that the more I listen to it, the more I like it. Now I love the song. I just wish it was a little bit longer though because he came hard with the guitar towards the end. The very last second of that song kinda sounded like the very ending to Purple Rain as well.

Always thought of it as a song you like from the first time you hear it, but get bored with after a while. A good single choice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is a, what we call in Holland, a SkyRadio song. That's not a compliment ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I absolutely love that song ... one of my favourites. It appears on every single custom CD I make up.
It's in the same key as Purple Rain (Bb) and has many of the same chords ... when I'm playing piano, I often go straight from The Morning Papers into Purple Rain. L I'm just, I'm just Levi from the org

Great Song!
"If he poured his heart into a glass And offered it like wine She could drink and be back in time 4 the morning papers" "Why is age more than a number when it comes 2 love?" If U set your mind free, baby, maybe U'd understand...

Good song, but I always thought the chord progression in the verses was a bit too close to Starfish & Coffee.

I love this one. Its a pretty standard formula, but was one of the best songs on . I agree its a very radio friendly song and a pretty obvious choice for a single, surprised it didnt do better.
Actually i liked a lot of the ballads on this album. Love 2 the 9's (without the shite rap bit), sweet baby, and god created woman, all quality songs. Testament to the fact that was a lot better than most gave it credit for.

I've never really been thrilled with this song. It's okay, but nothing to write home about. And I can't understand why it was released as a single, when there are so many other stronger songs on the CD ("And God Created Woman","The Continental",etc).
But the video was GREAT!

I've always loved this song - this was the first time that I knew a Prince song before it was played on the radio (and it was played a lot on Radio 1 in the UK at the time). I remember hearing this and In A Word Or 2 by Monie Love (written/produced by Prince) back to back many times.
I would love to hear this in concert, with the piano of Empty Room starting as the final note of The Morning Papers fades. Hmmm, maybe I'll do a mix cd with studio versions (Empty Room '95 in that case).

Of all Prince albums has probably been the biggest grower for me. At one stage I dismissed it as commercial pap. Now I consider it his best album of the 90s. The Morning Papers is one of its greatest strengths. Sometimes I think Prince undervalues his lower range singing- on The Morning Papers it is gritty, passionate and soulful, with a hint of gospel. It's a shame he tends to prefer his falsetto for most songs (which, to be sure, is a stunning instrument). But I think the highlight of is Love 2 the 9s. That song is stunningly alive and fresh, and I even like the rapping.[This message was edited Thu Feb 13 6:29:11 PST 2003 by fairmoan]

One of the redeeming features of the album is Morning Papers. A lovely song, better than anything else on that sprawling mess of a CD

But the video was GREAT! what did you think of prince choosing to wear "normal clothing" in the video? the grunge type, sleeveless shirt.. i always thought it was a good look, but may have people wondering what he was trying to prove. "No, I'm not that mysterious. I'm a pretty open book. People who know my music, I would say know me." - Prince, Today Show 3/15/04

For me also, this was one of those songs that at first I didn't really get into very much.
Over time and many more listens, I've come to really love and appreciate it. It's very pretty and full of emotion and the lyrics are beautiful. Don't know what was with me when I first heard it.

I HATED this song for years and years and years
It was from the start my least favorite song on the glyph album... but then about 2 years ago, I changed my tune...it's now one of my favorites from the glyph I personally blame my dislike for the song on the video...I didn't understand his grungy-flannel look at all..it seemed very strange on him, IMO
