Has Prince ever done a Pink Floyd cover?

Probably already discussed somewhere, sorry.

So did he? I thought I read one time that he did a cover of "Wish You Were Here" at a Lovesexxy concert or near that time period. I'd really like to hear his take a Floyd song.

Yeah Dave Gilmour guested on a Tom Jones TV show a few years ago, it wasnt that hot really as I don't think Tom's voice is really suited to such a track, Gilmour as always was stunning.

I do believe Gilmour has been to quite a few Prince gigs in the past as well.

Hope this helps

Can you just imagine Prince doing a 10-minute guitar version of "Any Colour You Like?" It would be incredible!!

Dave Gilmour is a great guitarist, one of the best. Somehow though I doubt Prince would be into Pink Floyd, even though there's some fucking incredible guitar moments on their albums.

Fave Pink Floyd albums: Meddle, Animals, Wish U Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and the Final Cut.

Well his version of Led Zepps Whole Lotta Love (or the Top of the Pops theme to the uneducated) was dire..so pointless (IMO)

I thought that the coda at the end of the song TRC
was kind of Pink Floyd-ish.

Some elements of the first disc of Sign o The Times also
remind me of Pink Floyd at times.

And the "Small Club" gig, especially the first half hour
and the intro to People Without.

Me too. The 10 minute celebration version can easily try
"Joy In Repetition" [it ain't over cd] on for size.

I think "Money" would sound great with his current band.

I thought the Sensual Everafter had taints of Floyd
and the guitar part of I could never take the place of your man i thought also sounded kinda Floydish.
I would love to hear Prince cover Wish You Were Here.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I vote for "Have A Cigar". The lyrics to that one fit rather perfectly IMO.

I always think of Prince when I listen to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." I'm not even sure why, but I do.
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

I find that strange, people say The Final Cut is the worst Floyd album but I think its stunning, Gilmour's guitar work is just amazing..and that's when he couldnt be bothered smile

Prince should've done "Astronomy Domine" on the Sign "O" the Times tour.

Well seeing as we are on a Pink Floyd twist ...
how about..
1. Coming back to life ( The Division Bell)
Excellent guitar work by Gilmour nice and simple yet effective...No twisted Psychedelic stuff from waters here !!!

2. Sorrow ( Momentary lapse of reason)
Another guitar driven track

Prince did a Funky n' Fine (imo) version of the stones "Honky Tonk Woman" on the undertaker...That aint floyd...Does it have to be Floyd stuff???

While we are on the subject of covers...can someone tell me what the hell prince was thinking when he allowed Leann Rhimes to do that disgracefully dismal attempt at Purple Rain ???

My guess is Prince could cover any track he liked and we die hard fans would love it...Its a matter of personal taste after all...

Pagey

"The Plan" on Emancipation sounds just like the beginning of "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" to me. Everytime I hear the Plan (which isn't very much) I always think of Shine.

Prince shouldn't cover anything from Division Bell or Momentary Lapse...they are not official PF albums imo...no Roger Waters...no Pink Floyd, period.

I think he could do a killer "Wish You Were Here" on guitar or piano, or how about "Young Lust" from The Wall...with the Empty Spaces intro!

peace

Somehow, I can picture him covering parts of "Animals". The barnyard sound on "Animal kingdom" always reminded me of Floyd's "Pigs on the Wing" or "Sheep".

Interesting thought.

"Hallucination Rain" has a Pink Floyd vibe 2 it.

Kind of on subject- I had read in some random Pink Floyd book ( I am a big Pink Floyd fan, every thing before Waters left ) that Gilmore thought the Lovesexy album cover was genius.

Mr. Gilmour is quite generous in his complements for Prince, nothing but good things to say. How about David Gilmour doing "Sometimes it Snows in April"?
