Prince had a Youtube channel. It only had 2 or 3 videos on it though. One was Chocolate Box with Q-Tip in it.

Oh, and there was that dumb girl who got a video from the Montreux performance. Whatever happened to her? Wasn't she also something semi-official?

Just think about it...

If Prince had his own Youtube channel, I'm pretty sure he'd have a couple million subs pretty quick [he'd probably have at least ten million subs after that, etc]. Then he'd quickly have a partnership with Youtube & make money off of posting his live performances & maybe even give some studio exclusives. I'm pretty sure he'd disable adding comments & likes too, so he'd never have to respond to anyone. And hey, at least it would be better than someone just bootlegging his shit & putting out there for free...

Of course he'd get into a big fight with Youtube over profits with his partnership [I wouldn't expect anything to run smoothly with Prince whatsoever lol ], but hey, at least it's an idea....

What are your thoughts on this one?????

Unlike Michael & Madonna, Prince has NEVER ever been YouTube friendly. An official Prince YouTube Channel is never going to happen no matter how much business sense it makes.

people here doubting he would get a million subs

YOUTUBE is FREE an his channel would have everything from PURPLE RAIN to KISS . to SHH

It would easily draw in a million plus subs ..

its free .... maybe NPG MUSIC club didnt have a million plus .. but thats cos lots of fans heard about it an hardlUTUy any joined .. because they dont like PAYING .. when BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN an every fucker else had free websites .. with regular uploads of vids .. etc etc

some other artists were giving away free downloads .... alot of people are also reluctent to buy anything over the internet .. myself included ...

IF ITS FREE .. then everyne is there ....

it aint just one album an one song, style .. it should have scores of vids up from different times an different styles .. alot of people like PURPLE RAIN but dont like MUSICOLGY .. AN vice versa ... prince has a song 4 weveryone ... so if everything is up .. its a big NET an will catch alot of FISH

An anytime someone sees him on tv .. an digs him .. they wiill YOUTUBE him ...

Dude, let's look at some numbers, shall we?

http://www.youtube.com/user/ninofficial : 58,000 subscribers.

Anyone got some other official YouTube channels for artists?

Maybe some of these are not as successful as NIN, and not the best examples, but Erykah Badu, Bjork, Kate Bush (YT channel under a year old), Janelle Monae, all respected artists, all with way under 30,000 subscribers.

I still think that even an artist such as Prince with 30 years in the business would struggle for a million, and that's being generous.

Lady Gaga has 860,000 subs. There is no way Prince will ever make it to a million.

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

^ maybe that is the reason why Prince has no YouTube Channel?

He doesn't want to prove that his following is rather weak these years.

My guess is 30,000 to 50,000 subscripers - and that is maybe even too high.

Nah, I think Prince thinks he can't make money of YouTube and that's why he's against it. I think he doesn't care about his imago at all as long as he can make money.

His videos are all over Youtube anyways, why not capitalize on it?

He could probably make some good money.

Not to mention all of the promotional possibilities.

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Prince will not have Youtube channel because Prince can't convince Youtube meaning Google, Inc. to give him millions of dollars up front, on the notion that because he's Prince, he can throw up one video every lunar eclipse and millions of people would subscribe and watch daily. shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

lol, he'd find someway of messsing it up. Prince and the net, sadly, is a marriage made in hell. He wouldn't have a clue about maximising its potential. Lets just focus on him making 1 decent album first and then let the rest follow!

By the way, it really does beggar belief doesn't it that this is even a debate? How the heck can an artist NOT use the net / you tube etc as a means of promotion - IT's FREE!!!, upload a live clip and let it fly in time for the tour!.

I'm with aardvark and anyone else who says it'll never happen, but it's actually a damn good idea, Titty.

And she's the queen of YouTube. I dunno where people get this absurd idea that Prince is immensely popular. He hasn't done anything in the past 15 years where he's reached a significant amount of online users.

Even the real world stuff is often a huge letdown: that UK festival is now offering lower ticket prices, for his Werchter gig last year they gave away thousands of tickets,... Whenever he requires a huge audience, it turns out the numbers simply aren't there.

(Which makes his refusal to "exploit" his niche audience even dumber than before.)

He sould only be allowed to have the channel if he puts up some unreleased songs and videos as well as allow for downloads. I'm still peeved that LF Orb didn't allow for download of the Undertaker. If anyone knows where to get this, org note me.
