I like how some are posting different threads with the same articles/pictures lol
Obviously that's not Bria at all in the pictures.

Yeah, and I'm floored by how anyone could mistake either of those women as Bria. Hair, height, body shape - -ALL WRONG. Neither woman looks anything like Bria!

There are many similar garments across Africa and the Middle East, so it's honestly tough to pin down exactly what Prince has got on.
The thobe is probably the most widely seen standard long robe worn by Muslim men around the world, and it's probably some version of this that you've seen on men in NYC along with the cap, called a kufi:
A gandora is very popular in Morroco and has short or 3/4-length sleeves. They are usually more intricately embellished than the thobe, and some are absolutely beautiful. Your brother probably got married in something like this, but fancier:
Prince's garment looks a lot like a gandora, but it's got very long sleeves and seems to have a front opening that runs the entire length of the robe. This is most like a Morrocan djelleba -- particularly a woman's djelleba, which is often every bit as ornate as a gandora -- without the big, pointy hood for which djellebas are probably best known: [Edited 6/26/11 14:53pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I like that long thing he has on.
But...that's not Bria. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

Damn, Ruby meant no harm! She was just letting you know that all of this (including thoughts on the comments you're bringing attention to) can be found in its own dedicated thread.

I DON'T like that thing he's wearing. So opposite to sexy! And his latest references to the "happy" muslims and women wearing burqas...Oh no!! That is SO completely the wrong direction...I'm actually thinking about getting off the ride...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
but he didn't say he was happy for people to wear that. he said if people are happy wearing it then whats the problem?
and whilst it might not be sexy, it's probably more stylish than him rolling up in sweatpants and a hooded top

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Thanks. I know about the "kufi" hat because a lot of Black Americans, as well as African and Arabs living in NYC, and elsewhere around the U.S. wear them. I have some male cousins who are muslims, who wear the kufi. I remember the kufi hat being a "fashion fad" in the early 90s on the East Coast, and other American cities, and worn in various styles by men and women. I remember when Queen Latifah first came out, she used to wear them a lot.
The pic of the first robe you posted is definitely one that I've seen over the years, worn by many African and Arab males from various countries, living in the U.S. The one you posted is a very familiar one. Same type one of my older brothers wore, when he got married. [Edited 6/26/11 13:02pm]

To each their own; I like flow-y, loose stuff so that's right up my alley . "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

Marvin Gaye wore the kufi a lot during the final 13 years of his life.

when he was on drugs after tammi died?
if prince was on drugs he might make some interesting music for a change
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
True. Carlos Santana has often wore one throughout the years as well. A lot of musicians wear it, along with the Asante Kente cloth as well. Athletes like former football player, Jim Brown has worn a kufi cap for years. So has Qubilah Shabazz, one of Malcolm X's daughters.
Some wear it for fashion and others for different reasons. [Edited 6/26/11 14:01pm]

good one.. Change it one more time..

Shouldn't the title of this thread be changed, considering neither one of those women are (as far as we know) new mysterious girlfriends but his workmates?
Nice to see new pics though.

He was on drugs a while before he wore it. Least recreationally.

An Egyptian friend once let me try on his thobe. It was ridiculously comfortable, I liked the way I looked in it, and he confirmed I was really sexy in it. (I should mention he is gay. )
I don't think I have the confidence to wear any of these garments in public in the West. I wish I were bolder. But a few months ago I found a beautiful black hooded djellaba that I plan to buy for chilling around the house. It's 100% cotton, lightweight and makes a funky, global chic alternative to a housecoat. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

LSD or weed maybe, but I couldnt see him doing hallucinagens cuz he's too much of a control freak, he'd flip out and end up causing permanent damage to his fragile mind... weed would be good for him. chill him out a bit.. but only while in the studio. on the stage his mind his mind should b clear Change it one more time..

:smh: I can't believe the comments here...people wear what they like and what feels good on their body. Not everyone is interested in wearing what everyone else wears...geeze. Frankly I like that Prince is constantly changing up his looks it fun to see. People should travel a little more to expose themselves to other cultures.
BTW, Andy Allo is cute, nice photo.

Totally LOVE the LOOK. Prince look so young and handsome. I love the fact that he's in control of his life. He should be, he works hard and it has truly paid off.
