'Adore' isn't actually very inspiring.

Myself and Lovebizzare have joined forces to ask the question;
Is 'Adore' one of Prince's finest moments, or is it just plain old bland?

Please say 'Yay' or 'Nay', accompanied with your reasons.

Thank U (as the man himself would say).

It's a decent little song, are you just standing against it because everyone raves so much about it?
Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

!!YAY!!

From the "When we be making love" point, it's one of the most pure soul performances I've ever heard him put down on record.

Absolutely not - I only ever judge things on how I see them myself. Other people's opinions don't sway me at all. It's just one of those Prince songs that I've never really cared for and seeing as lots of people seem to see it as one of Prince's finest, I just wondered how many other people see it in the same way as myself and lovebizzare do.

OK, I just popped this into my CD player...

It's one of his finest moments for sure!! Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Lyrically it's incredible. Imagines someone wrote this song for you! Prince layed that shit down so hard.

I Especially LOVEthis part...

"When we be making love, I only hear the sounds of heavenly angels crying above, tears of joy pourin down on us.
They know we need each other, they know you are my fix.
I know that you know I aint cheatin baby, they know this is serious, I aint fuckin just for kicks.
No, this confusion I got is crucial, crucial baby. You could say that I'm a terminal case. You could burn up my clothes and smash up my ride!"

That shit kicks my ass every single time!!!

This song has always struck me as rather silly. It would be interesting to know whether or not he meant for it to be taken seriously as an expression of love. His lyrics and vocals seem to suggest that the song is supposed to be sort of a parody of his love god image.

End.

someone asked in the Thread on the Importance of Wendy&Lisa why "Emanciapation" didn't capture the Fans&Critics with the Content of the Lyrics&Reason Being IMHO is that this Album captured all of that Better than anything that "Emanciapation" tried to do."Adore" was a Right on Time Song.it felt like The Cat was Feeling it.Arguably His Best Slow Jam Ever&it's because the People that dig this Cut truly felt the Message&Honesty in the Song.

Yeah and I also dug the organ! This song is the absolute ballad. Perhaps the most bangin ballad ever put on wax.It is my favorite song of all time! To all the people who find it isn't their cup of tea fine, but don't hate just because it gets so much praise!
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

And I see what u're saying as well -- there is an aspect of kookiness to it -- but showing his humorous side is what I think makes it real, imo.

Nay. It's outdone by nearly all the other songs on SOTT and nearly all the other love ballads in his catalog, in my opinion.

I liked this song until I heard the full album version. From then on I've loved it. The climax is just a glorious moment, truly heavenly. Its finale is reminiscent of Inner City Blues from What's Goin On in its degree of spiritual transcendence.

IMHO, it's one of the best love songs ever made. From start to finish it's just outstanding. It seems so honest the way he sings the song. I wish that there was a way for this song to be commercially released. It hasn't aged at all and that's another reason why I love it so much. I've already decided to put this song in my wedding and I'm not even dating anyone that's how much I love it. A Yay from me.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
