What was the one having, that the others didn't (albums) I know many of you appreciate Prince of his variety of different styles, yet being nothing but Prince in his signature sound. What did the one album have, that was lacking on all the others. Mainly focusing on the 80s this time around with a short description of each.
Dirty Mind: His most live and "real" sounding album. This is probably the album I feel closest to.
Controversy: This is probably when Prince really understood the strengt of mixing live music with programmed music. This is when he started mixing up his genuis formula. This album had creative curiosity towards the drum machine like on 1999, that was lacking more often when going a bit auto pilot in some parts of later 80s.
1999: Prince most amazing synth and drum programming. Also my personal favourite when it comes to his production in making each sound interesting and to pop out. Everything after this is more or less based on this wizardy drum programming style
Purple Rain: Best flow, biggest comercial success
Around The World In A Day: Biggest risk. Most epic througout. An adventure of new instrumentation(in his world) creating an evolving sound throught the album.
Parade: Clare Fisher. A perfect collaborater to Prince. Orchestra and horns FTW.
Sign of The Times: Most classics on one(two) album(s)
The Black Album: I always see The Black ALbum and Lovesexy as the ying yang, even though I don't consider The Black Album to be dark at all. It's maybe a dark moment though. These two albums was to me great because of the creativity in it's "random" nature. Leaving me to think that the songs as a whole wasnt that great, but the playfullness was very inspiring.
LoveSexy: happy go lucky. Nothing else matters than being spiritual and happy. This album has alot of fun and joy that I've never seen before or after it,
Batman: on his most auto pilot of the 80s, leaving us fun pop songs to dance to. This is how an album sounds like when Prince is merely just having fun, more than trying to be serios. It's his least "serious" album. Even though you gotta have some sense of humour and irony to listen to him in the first place. | |
