I love love love my outtakes!

We've had the threads that ask for everyone's favorite unreleased song

but I've not seen a thread about the songs that we are glad didn't get

released.

So tell me...

Are there any outtakes that you are glad he didn't release?

I'd be glad if mostly everything he did since 2004 remained unreleased....

to be honest i seem to get the impression that being an outtake adds to the appeal of them... i mean some are really good but the vast majority deserved not to be released

This is gonna make me sound like a kiss-ass syncophant, but I actually mean it : I have yet to hear any Prince outtakes that I thought sucked. In fact I think they're better than some songs he ended up releasing.

I havent heard too many unreleased music by Prince, but "Rich Friends"

In fact, im surprised he let a radio station play it...

it just sounds so unfinished.

I don't think there's a single (circulating) studio outtake that's substantially worse than the worst songs that have been officially released (whatever they are). Yes, that includes "The P" and the "Gangster Glam" remixes. Also, just have a look at all those "favorite/least favorite song from album X" threads. Nobody would agree on what should or shouldn't be released. I happen to like "Dance With The Devil", for example. So I agree with databank: release everything.

I personally think that a lot of his unreleased stuff is better than his released stuff as it shows him more as a spiritual / mystical person and hasn't been watered down for the mainstream.

However in terms of some of the songs on the Crystal Ball CD - Poom Poom and the remixes of existing songs like Continental/ Loose!, Cloreen Bacon Skin should DEFINATELY have remained in the Vault, dreadful.

Yet he leaves gems like Wonderful Ass, Train, The Voice Inside, Baby You're A Trip, Baby Go Go, Open Book, Moonbeam Levels, No Call U, Possessed to name but a few languishing in the Vault....these are some of his masterworks makes no sense unless he is saving them for some masterwork.

i got the same impression when the Crystal Ball set came out.

There are some real gems his outtake/boot material, but I find that the vast majority of what I hear are songs I'm glad aren't released.

Some of the stuff is positively dreadful, even for demos. I'm hoping what's being called 'the vaults' contain more polished stuff.

I'm going to have to see if I have The Voice Inside -not familiar with it off hand,

but everything else you said is spot on IMO!
