Best ONA Circulating Main Show

Been really into the 2002 live stuff lately, and have all of the circulating aftershows. Wondering what e consensus is on the best circulating main show? While we're at it, what about soundcheck? I'm looking for the best in terms of both fidelity and performance.

NOT LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON WHERE TO GET, JUST THE NAME, OR LABEL/DATE.

I've always been partial to the Chicago main show that's circulating. Sounds like a really great show and the audience recording is pretty high quality.

There are no soundboard recordings of the ONA regular shows, if I remember correctly; but the quality of many audience recordings is astounding.

Hamilton, Berlin, Paris, Rotterdam, Atlanta Apr 4th, Budokan (both dates), Kokusai Center...

In a word, barring a few cases where the problem is the recording itself, there's no such thing as a bad ONA show.

Including aftershows and soundchecks, there are nearly 100 titles to choose from.

Not much more to say on this after vitriols post, but anything on the Sabotage label is pretty damn great as far as ONA shows go.

Some pretty fine fan releases too.

Just get them all.

^THAT!

Why bother mentioning the official release if it's chopped, edited, incomplete and hardly reflects what this magnificent tour was?

I don't get it, and I don't think that was what the OP was asking...

Scotland would be very handy indeed.

But lets face it, if he were to do a tour like ONA again, i'd be more than willing to travel anywhere in the UK to see it.

i saw that tour at the Kodak theater in Hollywood and i used to have the exact show downloaded on my computer. it was a really clean recording and had a special piano medley that included sheila e running out to sing love bizarre with him. unfortunately that computer crashed and i lost all my music on it. i'm sure someone out there has it. let me know if you do actually!

Antwerp is my favourite

The quality suffers a but but 4DaFunk did a rather good job of remastering it

All worth it for the 19 minute rendition of Days Of Wild at the end cool

Another great 4DF ONA show is ONA In Louisville. Again, quality is not maybe as great as other ONA shows, but considering the problems that this recording had before the 4DF wizards fixed things, it's a great document.

The show is quite unusual for this tour, in that there were no horns at this show, and the gig began with a Prince/piano segment, which usually occured in the second half of the ONA shows.

Top release.

I'd say really good ONA show HAS to have a loud performance of Xenophobia with the long intro with the airport security dialog. I thought that shit was cool.

And also it has to have a decent performance of "Sing a Simple Song" with the mic being traded off between 2 others besides Prince. for each lyric. That trading off was freakin cool live. They were having so much fun, they were smiling big.

The Buaffalo set was cool. I liked the cover of Erykah Badu's "Didn't Ya Know?" and the fact that they announced the aftershow after the performance. I think this was one of the first pair of 'shoes' I bought along with Miles 2 Nowhere

This was the last tour that was not weighted down with 25-30% covers. Prince originals - a mix of (then) new material and classics. Exactly what hardcore, original, old school, pre-Purple Rain fans want to hear. Genius album and the best live show from Prince since Lovesexy.

Paris springs to mind. The Paris soundcheck has more music, with little to no chat (unlike most other ONA soundchecks).

Sweet Baby is performed over a tasty groove, there are a couple of glorious jazzy keyboard heavy instrumentals, a great version of the Santana Medley, and Prince impersonating Macy Gray, which is funny.

The soundcheck is disc 3 of the 3 disc Paris set on Sabotage (discs 1 & 2 are the main show).

Sound quality is well above average for ONA soundchecks, almost perfect, and the 2hr 30min main show is one of the better sound quality recordings too.

All in all, a fantastic set. You allready have the Paris aftershow, you should get this to make the set complete.

Paris Soundcheck (listed as Paris Aftershow) is awesome. One of the best audience recordings I've heard.

I was there at that show...forgot how good it was but yeah that was a cool tour the way Prince really didn't just play the hits and played a lot of songs for the real fans. I think Musicology tour ruined him a bit as that was a big payday and he just feels like that's how he can cash in every time..but just playing the hits over and over and over.

I only have a few ONA shows but Chicago is my favorite too. Great sound for an audience recording.

I have never heard one of the un-official releases, but I think the DVD and Box-set reveal Prince in a rather (conservative/chill) mode.

^Given the usual content of your posts it's clear that you can't be bothered with bootlegs because you most probably consider them 'to be evil'.

You don't know what you're missing. Keep on enjoying your chopped full-o'make-up releases while we all keep on enjoying the real deals.

I am really fond of the Japan (main) shows: Hamamatsu (Joy in Repetition is my favorite version ever, amazing buildup with lovely delicate intro solo, great singing and awesome solo) and Kokusai (personal highlights: Girls&Boys-Shake and Empty Room). Both have very good sound quality for audience recordings.

I don't know if I have audio of that show, but I do have video on DVD. I was at that show too.

Did you make it to the aftershow at the HOB?
