paul mccartney and prince...

i remember years ago there was a programme where music stars picked their favourite top 10 songs...either on vh1 or mtv...they talked about the song and artist then they played the video....

.

i remember one time that paul mccartney was on it and he was picking his favourites and they were almost all early rock n roll tunes...elvis..buddy holly..stuff like that ...the only track he picked that was released after the 60s was ' little red corvette ' ...he went on to say how much he admired prince and that he was a true original...i thought this was a great compliment to prince from one of the true greats of modern music...

.

i would love to see this again if anyone has it...

.

does anyone else have any stories about prince and any of the beatles...quotes...video clips..prince concerts they went to.....?

.

thanks biggrin

.

yeahthat Sort of...I appreciate some of the Beatles stuff but looking at it retrospectively I don't think they are that great...but at the time I'm sure they would.

Cant stand McCartney and his 'don't you know who I am?' attitude....yeah, you're quarter of a defunct very successful band, half of an aclsimed writing partnership and nothing on your own - you're the Tony M of the 60s

Nothing on his own? Funny how idiocy can classify an amazingly successful 40 year career as a solo artist as "nothing."

His legacy & contribution to popular music will long outlast Prince's, that's a certainty.

Perhaps you should do some research , then come back. Your remarks are your opinion but are quite dumbfounded.

Relax - I was only half joking.

I simply don't react well to people who put themselves on a pedestal and say 'don't you know who I am, what I've done etc'

I just think that somebody who achieved what they have achieved as PART of a quartet or duo should perhaps be a little more humble.

I think the Comic Relief sketch, although intended to be funny, wasn't too far from the mark when he announced that he should be he one to get the glory job of visiting Africa as the face of Comic Relief because he's an international rock and roll star an 'the last remaining Beatle'

Ok...you obviously have some sense because you like Prince. This is just plain SILLY though. McCartney on solo career ALONE had more top 10 singles...more success...more INFLUENCE than just about any pop star out there. INCLUDING the Purple Yoda himself. That is a fact and not an opinion.

As i said, it was partly a joke (thought the Tony M comment might be a clue) - I apologise if I've caused offence. I guess I just don't get Paul McCartney the solo artist. But as you pointed out, only somebody ignorant to music fullstop could not understand and appreciate his impact and influence as part of Lennon & McCartney and the Beatles were undeniably influential and still remain so today.

plenty of people must find him good and it can't just be the people holding on to the memory/incarnation of the Beatles but personally, at it's only an opinion, his solo stuff (and I don't mean with Wings) has never connected with me so Im clearly not up on the stuff that hes done in recent years and the artist coming through that the new material is influencing.

My opinion is clearly not fact otherwise he wouldn't be playing Moscow etc But you're right, and I hold my hands up to my mistake, to form my opinion without all the knowledge is indeed to do so in ignorance.

Lesson learned...he's just not my cup of tea which is clearly not the same thing.

What? Paul was The Beatles. He was the face of the band and wrote all of the best songs. It was that sociopathic piece of shit John who couldn't carry his weight.

I am not a huge fan of Paul's solo work. But there are some real gems in the mix. Ram in particular is a great album as is Band on the Run. I personally like George's solo stuff more than any of them...All Things Must Pass is as good as any Beatle album, which I can't say fabout any of Paul or John's solo stuff. Now when it comes to the Beatles, they all held their own...Paul's stuff is always considered fluff...but um...Helter Skelter anyone? But give Ram a chance, its worth checking out.

But also cool to hear McCartney is such a Prince fan...didn't know that before.

Oh indeed - they seem very much alike in their attitude towards the common folk...but as I don't know them both personally I can't comment. They clearly both give something back, they've both got a legacy etc

ha, Prince was that too.

In his 1993 tour book Paul McCartney listed Prince as someone he liked, and in a radio interview (in which he cracked a lot of jokes and the DJ labeled him a comedian), he was asked who he would see live, and he said Prince. And the DJ asked if he would have trouble getting backstage to chat with Prince. Paul replied, "Now, who's the comedian?"

Also in the past years Prince covered "The Long and Winding Road", a McCartney authored song done while in The Beatles.

____________

I really liked when McCartney collaborated on "Say Say Say" with Michael Jackson. Both song and video were great back then in 1983.

People in here seem to be forgetting that Prince borrowed a lot from the Beatles style in some of his earlier albums, in particular, ATWIAD.

It is a great compliment to Prince.

Paul McCartney is a legend IMO and he is very down to earth and humble, nothing like some of the ignorant comments on here (looks at purpledoveuk).

He was just as important as Lennon, the only reason he isn't that feted is that he is still alive....John Lennon gets undue credit for the Beatles success IMO.

Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden sounds like a solo McCartney type of song, and I thought that before this thread appeared!
