It got some really good songs on it, but classics? Er, I guess that's just your opinion. shrug

The best ones: Future Soul Song, Lavaux, Sticky Like Glue (I don't even notice the rap anymore), Beginning Endlessly and Compassion.

oh, I've seen it before: the "it's not 80s material, so it can't be classic" syndrome talk to the hand a classic is a classic...new, old, or ancient lol, but a classic nonetheless...

with some veteran artists (Stones, The Boss, Prince, etc) it seems that anything they released after the 80s can't be classic material... confused

Like I said if you believe it, MORE POWER TO YOU! biggrin

But Joe I just have to ask you this simple question:

When you first listened to it for the very first time, how did you INITIALLY feel about it? Inquiring minds like to know... hmmm

PRODUCTION: Superb

SONGS: 4 INSTANT CLASSICS (SLG,FSS,BE,LD), 3 VERY STRONG ALBUM TRACKS (L, C, AoG), 2 GOOD BALLADS, 1 TURD lol

Overall, I thought that yes, he went back for the Dirty Mind/Controversy formula, but with more mature (safe) lyrics and a more modern production, of course. I was very happy cuz after MPLSound, I thought that perhaps Prince had lost it as far as electro/funk goes, but with 20Ten he showed me (us) that he still has it, even if he (sadly) doesn't give a damn about sales, tours, promotion, etc.

Musicology, 3121, Lotus and 20Ten are a late-career winning streak for me shrug

easy! it's not one of the two strong ballads, and I already mentioned the rest of the songs...so that leaves you just one clear/evident option lol

I don't know why 2011 would be quieter than 2010.

He did not even release an album in 2010 that you could buy anywhere.

20Ten struck me as an in-between kind of project, and despite what some may think, something like Lotus is more of a full-scale release.

So IMO he is due again for something this year. Though it is June already. Maybe early 2012 in time for the apocalypse

oh c'mon, 20Ten spawned his last major US tour...and many europeans have the album lol

I mean, it's not like the Chocolate Invasion or the Slaughterhouse, more like a 2010 version of NPS (and def stronger)...

"Future Soul Song" is about it, for me.

It's all throwaway shit in autopilot. "Everybody Loves Me" is probably one of the better songs on there, despite it being really stupid.

Track list as I remembered it:

  1. Compassion (not a ballad)
  2. Beginning Endlessly (not a ballad)
  3. Future Soul Song (ballad and you named that the "classic" along with Beginning...)
  4. Sticky Like Glue (not a ballad)
  5. Act of God (of course you know by now)
  6. Lavaux (not ballad)
  7. Walk in Sand (BALLAD)
  8. Sea of Everything (BALLAD)
  9. Everybody Loves Me (if you call this a ballad I feel sorry for you lol )
  10. Laydown

Now what was the OTHER ballad? reading

Well, Prince fans disagree a lot about Prince´s music. It happens more than other artists´ fans.

Everybody has their own taste, but to my ears 20Ten is not a great album. It has some nice songs - like on every Prince album - but its a forgettable album for Prince´s standards. I dont expect him to release an innovative album anymore, but 20Ten is auto pilot. It´s not the kind of album I would promote to my friends.

Exactly, NPS was an in-between project, too

I can't really call what he is doing now a proper tour. It's like the Hit 'n' Run tour of 2000 or 2001 whenever that was that he was in between Rave and The Rainbow Children, and in fact I doubt it is as extensive as that one--it's really only been 3 places, CA, NY & NC

- Yes, ANY Prince album will be good, because he is a great musician/songwriter and has some ´quality control´. But I dont feel he was challenging himself or putting some passion on it.

I compared it to 3121... he had more creativity in that one than here lol 20Ten is like "the legend resting on his laurels" kind of album. lol Laydown and Beginning Endlessly DID show some creativity.
