powa! powa! POWA!

Also did you REALLY believe Prince was gonna put an album called 20Eleven?!
Honestly?! COME ON. Prince ain't that gullible.
He'll just come up with something new next year.

... so now jughead pt. deux is considered a classic?

PRODUCTION: Superb
SONGS: 4 INSTANT CLASSICS (SLG,FSS,BE,LD), 3 VERY STRONG ALBUM TRACKS (L, C, AoG), 2 GOOD BALLADS, 1 TURD lol
Overall, I thought that yes, he went back for the Dirty Mind/Controversy formula, but with more mature (safe) lyrics and a more modern production, of course. I was very happy cuz after MPLSound, I thought that perhaps Prince had lost it as far as electro/funk goes, but with 20Ten he showed me (us) that he still has it, even if he (sadly) doesn't give a damn about sales, tours, promotion, etc.
Musicology, 3121, Lotus and 20Ten are a late-career winning streak for me

I like to know what was the TURD!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
it was a joke lol, but the fact is: most likely, 2011 will be like 2008 all over again: A BIG NOTHING...
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Who knows what will happen next year... maybe he is on a break idk...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
easy! it's not one of the two strong ballads, and I already mentioned the rest of the songs...so that leaves you just one clear/evident option lol

Sea of Everything or Walk in Sand? [Edited 6/9/11 16:29pm]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Eh I'm gonna say Walk in Sand.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
WRONG!!
he, I said that it's NOT one of the 2 STRONG ballads (WiS,SoE), which are fantastic, btw...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't know why 2011 would be quieter than 2010. He did not even release an album in 2010 that you could buy anywhere. 20Ten struck me as an in-between kind of project, and despite what some may think, something like Lotus is more of a full-scale release. So IMO he is due again for something this year. Though it is June already. Maybe early 2012 in time for the apocalypse My Legacy

oh c'mon, 20Ten spawned his last major US tour...and many europeans have the album lol
I mean, it's not like the Chocolate Invasion or the Slaughterhouse, more like a 2010 version of NPS (and def stronger)...

"Future Soul Song" is about it, for me.
It's all throwaway shit in autopilot. "Everybody Loves Me" is probably one of the better songs on there, despite it being really stupid.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
He only had three ballads though. Future Soul Song, Walk In Sand and Sea of Everything.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Track list as I remembered it:
Now what was the OTHER ballad?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, Prince fans disagree a lot about Prince´s music. It happens more than other artists´ fans.
Everybody has their own taste, but to my ears 20Ten is not a great album. It has some nice songs - like on every Prince album - but its a forgettable album for Prince´s standards. I dont expect him to release an innovative album anymore, but 20Ten is auto pilot. It´s not the kind of album I would promote to my friends.

man, the turd is obviously ELM lol
and no, it's not a ballad [Edited 6/9/11 16:41pm]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
And if you count that "77 minutes of silence" nonsense...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly, NPS was an in-between project, too
I can't really call what he is doing now a proper tour. It's like the Hit 'n' Run tour of 2000 or 2001 whenever that was that he was in between Rave and The Rainbow Children, and in fact I doubt it is as extensive as that one--it's really only been 3 places, CA, NY & NC My Legacy

You named it a ballad.
Of course ELM is shitty, duh.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly my point. I'm not disputing 20Ten is a good album (it was), to me it just seemed like he was, as you said, on auto pilot.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
? lol
I said it WASN'T one the 2 strong ballads
I don't consider FSS a ballad, more like an epic soul number... lol
epic soul...

You worded it to sound like it was.

I'm glad that this thread has showed you all that 20Ten was, after all, and excellent late-career album
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
- Yes, ANY Prince album will be good, because he is a great musician/songwriter and has some ´quality control´. But I dont feel he was challenging himself or putting some passion on it. [Edited 6/9/11 16:45pm]

I compared it to 3121... he had more creativity in that one than here lol 20Ten is like "the legend resting on his laurels" kind of album. Laydown and Beginning Endlessly DID show some creativity.
