How old are you and when did you become a Prince fan?

Much respect to the older fans, they've helped me learn a lot; and I'm curious to see about us younger fans.

I'm going on 5 years, fell in love with Prince after copping my mums 3121 when I was 14, and getting Prince Ultimate for xmas that year; the rest is history.

Roughly 2004 with the Grammys and Beyonce. More solidified in 2007 when I was on my compter downloadin music (I'm a horrible person) and the guitar comercial fo Target came on. And I was like "Oh, hey, Prince is cool..." **searches for his music**

And that's all she wrote. I never imagined 4 years later I'd be screaming my head off in The Forum watching him live.

BTW, I'm 20, so forgive me. I wasn't a thought in my mother's mind when he was in his "prime"

I've been a fan for... hmm 19 years since I was 3, but I became a huge fan when I was 16, and really interested* oops at fam just a year ago.

I became a fan in 2008 when I checked out his music because I was curious, so that's three years. I'm 19 at the moment, I became a fan when I was 17, but I'm turning 20 next month.

I always liked the stuff I heard on the radio when I was a kid (oddly, I'd never heard any from Purple Rain), and my brother and I used to like when the "Musicology" video came on Vh1 before school. I decided to check out Purple Rain on a whim (that was probably 2007), and my interest ascended from there. I'm 21.

im 21.. ive only been a fan for like, juuust about 2 years now. but hes definitely head and shoulders over every other artist in my opinion. my absolute favorite :]

Less than a year now, what up! It took me a long time to "get it", but I'm catching up as quick as I can...

I was big into Michael Jackson, and everyone kept comparing him to Prince, and saying Prince was better, so I wanted to check him out. I listened to some of the big hits, like 1999, and I thought they sucked back then, but Planet Earth was the album that got me hooked. I don't like that album too much anymore, though.

....Now I feel old.

Oh....and when I see people here born AFTER 91....why do I think of this?

I am 22. I just officially became a Prince fan this year, it's been some months ago, so I am still discovering a lot of music from him. But I would say I first got my taste of him when I watch Purple Rain so, that was the only movie I remember him from. It was also the only thing I knew him by. That had to be around either Elementary or Middle School. Before seeing it, I just remember my mom always telling me about Darling Nikki. I remember always wanting to hear the epic Darling Nikki that she would mention, but somehow never got around to listening to it. At that point, I was just a casual listener, but I did like some of the songs especially When Doves Cry. I remember I use to hear it on the radio, and always sang along while we would drive around to the store. good times

How I Became A Fan:

Well, this year I decided to go "old school" and listen to a lot of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s decade because I got tired of the music from this day and age, and decided to get some greatest hits albums from those artists/times that I like and knew about. I decided to get Prince "The Very Best Of", listen to it. I was like this isn't half bad, I like it. I remember when I first put it on, I Wanna Be Your Lover comes on, and I immediately start jamming to it, (it was my first time hearing the song!) something I don't think I have ever done with any other artist. I finish the album, and decided to look up his biography. I found out he had release 30 something albums. I was shock. I was like wow, cause I hadn't heard anyone else who had done that, and I still don't think anyone has done that. Anyway, so basically whenever I get money I go buy his albums that I see in the stores, pop them on and listen to them. I'm loving what I'm hearing so far. He truly is a musical genius, and is like no other. Now I classify myself as fan, cause I just can't stop talking about him and listening to his music.

Nearly 20 years and I am 35, the old school fans seem to see Purple Rain or earlier as their qualification, so my interest in Diamonds and Pearls may be a bit too neophytical for them.

I'm eighteen years old. I've only been a Prince fan for about five years (I was introduced to a copy of TGE & I haven't turned back) but I already know he is going to be the soundtrack to the rest of my life

Since I was 12. My mother loves Prince and she asked me to make a mixed cd for her using some MP3's she bought from walmart's website and I decided to listen to it and it was all she wrote. I'm almost 19 now . So, about 6/7 years lol.

I'm 21, became a fan when I was 14 during the Musicology buzz. Got totally locked in once I saw him perform Fury on SNL and then proceeded to go to the GMA show. What a fun time that was..

Interesting. Planet Earth is maybe my least favorite Prince album, but I could imagine that if I was unfamiliar with muchof his music, I might really like that album, or at least appreciate what he is doing on it.

I am a fan since '82, but it's cool to read these things
