What is so great about "Eye No"? It's creation is really a rearerangment and new lyrics of "The Ball". "Alphabet St." goes on too long. "Glam Slam" is a flat melody. "Dance On": noise? "When 2r in Love": a patchwork transplant. "Positivity": dull?

ZAZA2

I've always liked The Truth but thought the order of the songs could use some work. When I program the cd I usually start off with Welcome To The Dawn instead of this being the final song. Then comes Fascination. And Don't Play Me is usually the last song.

Oh man... I love this album! I wish he'd do another acoustic record... it's a bloody rare thing to find Prince doing album where he doesn't totally overproduce everything and put in cowbells and helicopters and horns and whatever. Raw n dirty is what I like. I like hearing Prince's fingers sliding along the guitar strings. I want to hear out of tune chords, and accidentally mutes strings, and things slightly off the beat...

OHHH.. LAWD! Not The Truth argument... AGAIN.

What I don't understand is that if The Truth doesn't appeal to (you) then that's understandable, everyone has different tastes. But I kind of get the impression that the people that don't like "The Truth" keep making it a point to tell everyone else they don't like it only because they can't see why someone else likes it so much.

It's almost like those who dislike the album have developed sort of an animosity towards those who like it just because they can't relate.

Have you ever told a joke to a group of people and when you get to the punchline everyone starts laughing. But then there's one person that didn't "get it" and he feels left out, then you have to stop and explain the joke to him. But by the time you do that, it's not funny anymore. Well, that's sort of how I feel about explaining The Truth to others who seem to express some kind of bitterness that they don't "get it" when it comes to The Truth.

Some people take the time to explain why they don't like the Truth, and I respect that even when I disagree with their point of view. But when a work of art, any type of art, gets gets brought down to such a narrowminded phrase as "IT SUCKS" well... is it really worth discussing any further at that point?

Prince poisons any of that "raw" vibe by completely overdoing the vocal arrangements. And what about all of the corny sound effects and weedy string parts? I think The Truth moves between boring songs and sickly sweet melodies. My interest in the album is confined to the sequence from The Other Side of the Pillow to Comeback.

Agreed. Before this record came out, everybody was complaining about overproduction and Kirky J. I prefer TRC but it was cool to hear an acoustic album. Moreover, the vocals in alot of the songs were clear and raw.

nobody can explain what to listen for, an album will either move you or it wont

and the good thing is there is no right or wrong each of us decide individually what we like

The fact that prince records so much diverse music is why he has so many different types of pple appreciating him.

Anyway you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I like the album a lot though. I don't think he overdoes the vocals... by Prince standards this album is positively raw.

"Don't Play Me", "The Truth" and "3rd Eye" are pretty funky and I like them a lot.
