I was lucky enough to work with Cameron Crowe the director last week. The project he is working on (Bought a Zoo) stars Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansen. Both Cameron and Matt are Prince fans, and Cameron was telling me that last Friday Matt Damon and his family went to see Prince's show in LA.

As they were leaving some people came over and asked if Matt Damon and his family would like to meet Prince back stage, which of coarse he did.

After waiting a while backstage, Matt said Prince arrived in a purple robe and turban. Not knowing what to talk about and feeling an awkward silence, Matt asked prince "So Prince do you still live in Minneapolis?"

To which Prince replied "I live forever in my heart Matt Damon" and then left.

I thought it was a funny story when I heard it.

This is SO FUNNY.

On a side note, I had no idea Cameron Crowe was a Prince fan. His movies are so carefully musically cultivated (including his wife) and I never got a hint of a Prince vibe. I really liked his remake "Vanilla Sky".

I have no idea why anyone would think this wasn't true! Maybe details are left out, but it's so typical of an encounter with Prince where things are kind of funny weird.

I've heard many a story from people who interacted with Prince. And I mean from that person, no online or anything.

I think Prince has a funny sense of humor.

The DJ was Rashida. And this was so ugh that he cancelled the aftershow. Because he was there and walked around the club. The second night he played guitar a bit with Costa on stage.

no it wasn't rashida, it was some bloke djing on 11th august 2007. prince wasn't in the club that night (at least now whilst it was open to punters). he fucked off to chinawhites instead

nikka costa playing during the aftershow on 4th august, which was the second night. the first night was 3rd august

you are maybe confused with the night with dr john on 3rd august where prince was in the venue and guitar setup for part of the show, but prince wasn't in the mood and fucked off elsewhere. dr john was playing indigo2 earlier in the evening and prince asked him to play a second set

there were a few afterparties that prince didn't play. he typically played the tuesdays and saturdays where he didn't have a show the following day, but there were exceptions to that

a few times when he didn't play aftershows he went to china whites, including the nite matt damon was there. madonna was also on the guest list that same night but didn't turn up

prince wasn't feeling the vibe when dr john played, so he didn't play himself

rashida dj'd a few nights, but the night in question that matt damon was there, rashida didn't dj, it was some other non prince related bloke that didn't have a single cd in his collection. a fan gave him a copy of planet earth to play

Interesting story - (and maybe it's in the way the story is retold) but Matt Damon went to the show on the Sat night not the Friday night. It was Sat 23rd April - he was sitting 5 rows behind me.

So if the story is claimed to have taken place on the Friday night (hereforth known as Prince on a bike night) then it might be more Prince myth than fact.

Funny though.

I used to always say I'd never want to meet any of my favorite musicians, but I'm starting to think I wouldn't mind meeting Prince and talking to him for like five minutes, because there's no telling what he might say. It definitely wouldn't be boring.
