I don't know him to say that he is. I'm only going what is already out there. Prince is awesome to me. It's written in question form. I'm not saying he is or not, I'm simply ASKING a question. My thread does not say "Prince IS an Asshole" whatsoever....I've heard stories, but that's all...which is why I'm asking what others think.....

I absolutely love the guys music & work ethic [just like the rest of you], but it appears to me that a lot of the people that he's worked with in the past & [former] friends really don't seem to like him that much anymore. I even see certain people on here complain about him constantly [I've seen those "Everything was great til '88 lines" too lol ]. Shiela E. isn't playing with him anymore, He cuts people out that some of us wish he wouldn't [Wendy & Lisa & the rest of The Revolution]. So, what could it be? We all could say jealousy, but I'm not buying that EVERYONE he used to work with or be cool with or even date is jealous of him. It has to be somethings we don't even know about in Prince's character. Why so many crappy business deals? Why so many abandoned projects? Could we fans be feeding too much into his ego? Why his money troubles & suits?!? Why doesn't he have his own family by now? What's with his control issues? What's with his constant lying?????

I'm starting to think that music & fans are the only stable thing Prince has in his life... sad

Feel free to spill your thoughts and/or Dog me for for posting this thread. I'm just kinda worried about the little guy.....

[Edited 5/31/11 6:36am]

So Sheila E missed a couple of concerts. It's not like she's always played in his band. Instead of her being an example of him still getting along with at least some of his former band members and returning to play in his band time after time, two missed shows is an example of his not?

Prince has a lot of former band members, some return and play in his band again, some don't. They certainly couldn't all be a part at the same time. The current tour included Morris Hayes, Renato Neto, John Blackwell and Sheila E, among others. All people who have certainly been around for a while. There are some who won't work with him again and others who will.

Wendy and Lisa certainly had a falling out with Prince when he fired the revolution. Certainly not a bad career move to mix it up and go in a different direction, but he probably could have handled it better. And he did at least perform with Wendy again - the song Reflection on Tavis Smiley.

As for the family thing, someone mentioned the death of his baby. That was a rare genetic disorder, and certainly explains why he never tried again with Mayte. Who knows what happened with Mani. Maybe he didn't want to try, maybe they tried and failed. Who knows. Kind of an odd thing to call someone an a**hole over.

Certainly he's not the best business person and certainly he wants to be in control of his own music. One reason for so many abandoned projects is he creates stuff faster than it can be reasonably released. Another reason is sometimes while working on a project, a better idea comes along. During the WB years, the record label often said no. In the post WB years, he can't always find a label willing to pay the price he demands.

He certainly has an ego and can be controlling. The question is, would his music be as good if this wasn't true? If he was afraid to step on toes. As much as I love the music from that era, I personally think it would be kind of boring if he still had the exact same band and still made the same kind of music he did in 1984. Prince and the Revolution wouldn't have created Gett Off for example.

have u noticed prince is playing dirty songs again?

have u noticed prince is not playing "the one" .. u know the line about having "10 women and confusing it all with his wealth"?

did u notice bria, misty and now this mysterious other women?

do u remember sheila, cat and susannah?

i think sheila was shocked that prince was still up to his past douchery and lit into him thus resulting in prince removing the only capable musician he's had onstage on a regular basis lately in decades. excluding guests like stevie of course.

yes prince did make a huge mistake when he fired w+l and "gett off" would have been so much better with a real band .. sure prince wanted to go in a different direction, one where musicians weren't capable of challenging his ideas with better ones ..

one thing is clear, prince is very superficial these days .. there is not much that can be considered genuine in his performance or personality .. we can debate the quality of his output all day but the fact remains .. his stage banter is well oiled to perfection and is purely acting .. i doubt the show changes weather prince is happy sad pissed or in love .. its a job and he sounds empty inside .. his ego is centered around his wealth, popularity and past accomplishments, not based upon his genuine connection with his bandmates or friends .. thus resulting in his reversion to his slave owner views towards the women in his life .. cya sheila .. keep that mouth shut or u'll get sued

if the musicians had so called better ideas than prince, they would be writing better songs than him, they would be the ones writing hits for others. They didnt do that

And get off was recorded with a "real band", the NPG, who were easily a superior band when he came to live performances.

the npg was a capable comercial funk band as opposed to what i consider are more real and actually funky music like james brown or funkadelic .. they were able to fit the modern sound of the time, and come off polished, but i think the revolution would have laughed at prince and his silly rap attempts and that would have been a good thing, whether it be prince or tony m, its poor decision making. i loved gett off when it came out .. love the flute .. first verse has a nice flow .. some of the rest is kinda sleazy, cliche, shallow and egocentric .. not the direction i had hoped prince would go in ..

and i saw the NPG on the ACT 1 tour and it was OK .. but the same band on the Gold tour pretty much ruined prince career as a superstar .. not that they did anything wrong .. it just did not hold peoples interest like his past groups

guitar is not the best song prince has done. Truth is you are on a prince fansite because prince is still making music while wendy and lisa simply cannot write songs to his level. It isnt just commercial, its non commercial songs as well.

The NPG were a real band and to say Sheila is the only capable musician he has onstage for decades is misinformed. John Blackwell isnt a capable musician? He is one of the best drummers in the world. Rhonda smith isnt a capable musician? lol

People didnt come to watch his band, they come to watch him. Most people dont remember the band members outside of die hard prince fans. Simple as that. Prince still sells out whereever he goes and it has nothing to do with his backup band.

I've heard this from a number of sources as well that he is an A**hole. I don't understand why he can be such a pain sometimes. I mean I can associate this to many of his past & present practices with former band members, concert pull outs, etc; yet I ultimately can't speak on his attitude until I see it perform before me. However, based on those who have spoke about him it seems he is very cool and a douche. (This I feel is relative to the relationship he has with certain people, also his current mood) I think at this point in life he seems very happy and proud for what he has accomplished, yet I feel he may be somewhat confused in what he will do next. Then again he seems pretty well determined in where he is going go. I don't know? I've heard the best and worst from him..We will only know from personal accounts we have with him. It's like he said in his song "Y Should I Do That, When I Can Do This- To most I'm known as a lover, to others I'm just a pain,The latter's opinion usually form when mediocrity reigns." Well..I don't think it's mediocrity all the time..lol. I am sure he is pain sometimes just as a lover..lol

I like some of Princes post revolution work better that some of his work with the revolution and better than any of W&L's solo work. That's why I'm on a Prince board. And you way underrate some of the outstanding musicians he's had post Revolution.

And I picked Gett Off as an example, not the only example, but Gett Off itself is outstanding. I wouldn't change a thing and he'd never make a song like Gett Off if he still had the same band he had in 1984.

firstly .. why u following me? .. its annoying .. we have different views .. accept it and move on

secondly .. wendy and lisa have dones some very cool music .. have listened to any of it? they are both very talented and were before they met prince as well

truth is i like talking prince music .. just like i like talking any music .. i would likely be here if prince was not making anymore music .. and i am always hoping he will pull out something good and surprise me .. just like the recent show he played power fantastic at .. great show

john blackwell is a very talented drummer as are many of prince musicians .. but there is a certain spark and extra level of creativity that certain people in the prince camp have and that the others do not have .. john does nothing for me in terms of spark and his muffled snare drum tone doesnt suit prince style in my opinion .. he is a perfectly capable drummer but i don't feel that he elevates prince music .. he just maintains and even so its still not as good as it was by the original players .. with the original tones and style .. and i do not enjoy the lite jazz influence both he and renato bring to the prince cannon .. it steals the life of the song imo .. rhonda is ok but again no star power

yes you admit most people don't know his band .. and thats my point exactly .. he used to have a band that people did know because they had that starpower .. and i think they were more involved in creating the music than any of prince recent line ups .. and sure lots of bands lose members and replace them but most fans will agree that it never sounds as good as the person who helped write the song or the parts whether they be drums, bass, piano or vocal harmonies .. just as candy dulfer is no eric leeds .. its just not as good and loses some of the magic that made those songs great.

lastly .. i am happy to discuss prince music but i am a little creeped out that u follow me to this thread after the way u were toward me on the other thread .. just sayin
