if Dirty Mind and Controversy were one album...

containing 10 great songs

if you were to top it with the best songs, yet maintain some consistancy, balance and variation throughout the album, which 10 songs, and in what order would you put them? I consider these two brother-/sister albums that deserve a place of their own, but at the same time it's easy to hear the connection, and this is just for the fun of it. And it's good training when it comes to noticing differences in musical styles and era.

Just pack 'em on one CD, they're both short enough for it.

Oh wow. I don't even see how these albums are constantly realted to each other. Being released at one time together, constant refrences to each album, and so on. What makes them similar? I couldn't even think of putting songs together. Totally different styles personalities (mind the personification). If anything, Controversy is definite precursor & maybe even stepping stone to 1999. But still love the album, but favor Dirty Mind over it wink

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

The production is imo the only difference in style between the two... with a couple of songs being the bridge to 1999

Dirty Mind was raw, while Controversy was a bit more produced and doesnt containt the charming live sounding "mistakes" that musically was on Dirty Mind.
