Great release. Especially since it's sourced from a real unreleased cd and is not a cut&paste job with outtakes of the era.

Props to DFB!

Yeah, it's great to have this stuff in the quality it deserves, the 11min Hallucination Rain has always been a favorite of mine.

I can give my All Exodus boot a rest now that this is with us. lol

Groovy. This looks similar to a old Exodus-era boot with a pink cover and pic of the band, can't remember what it's called and am not rooting around to dig it out, but I wondered if it was the same original source/config?

P.S. to anyone dl-ing this, don't say so in this thread or you'll get a million org notes from noobs who signed up to the forum yesterday saying "Hi eye am big fan, PLEEEZ give me link eye'll b ur BFF peas n b wild"

I was thinking the same, so i did dig it out smile

First 8 tracks look the same (according to the tracklist), but "The Exodus Has Begun" on that CD is about a minute shorter and it's missing the songs "It Takes 3" and the long version of "Hallucination Rain" (and a couple of segues).

I love this new version, especially the long version of "Hallucination rain"!

It Takes 3 is probably one of the weakest tracks from this lot (imo).

The alternate Get Wild and the long Hallucination Rain are great though.

It's an earlier, in some ways superior mix of "Exodus Has Began" with different sounds and none of less (if no) scratching.

Oh I know (like "Get Wild"), I just focus on that favorite track. There's no differences on "Return of the Bump Squad" are there? Those two tracks are the ones I really like off of this album.

It's cool to have but it's missing some of my faves from Exodus, namely "The Good Life," "Cherry, Cherry," and "Big Fun." I think the released version is way better. "It Takes 3" is just WACK imo. I think the "Hallucination Rain" fans will be pleased tho having this long version in perfect quality.

I believe the only track on this boot that remained unchanged on the retail configuration is Count The Days. The other songs got chopped up in favor of placing more tracks on the final CD. I'm not entirely sure about the differences between the segues - I never paid that much attention to those in-jokes.

May 15th 1994... Prince began sessions for Exodus, a new album with The NPG. An early version of the record was compiled on June 19th. At this stage, the record included six songs and a number of segues: NPG Bum Rush The Ship (segue), The Exodus Has Begun, NPG Operator (segue), Get Wild, Count (segue), Count The Days, DJ Gets Jumped (segue), New Power Soul, DJ Seduces Sonny (segue), It Takes 3, Rain (segue), Hallucination Rain, Spooky Soup (segue).

Further songs for Exodus were recorded in the second half of 1994 and a new sequence was assembled on December 2nd 1994. The record now featured 12 tracks (two of which were joined together) and a number of segues: NPG Operator (segue), Get Wild, Slave 2 The System – Acknowledge Me, Super Hero, Count (segue), Count The Days, Sonny (segue), DJ Gets Jumped (segue), New Power Soul, Mad, Love… Thy Will Be Done, Funky, Proud Mary, NPG Bum Rush The Ship (segue), Exodus, The Funky Design. The track Super Hero continued into a version of Billy Preston’s Outa-Space, which was uncredited on this configuration. Only four of the tracks from this configuration made the final album: Get Wild, Count The Days, New Power Soul, and Exodus.

Three further tracks were recorded in December 1994: Big Fun, Return Of The Bump Squad, and Cherry Cherry. Prince also added Hallucination Rain and The Good Life from the initial Exodus sessions in May 1994 before the album was completed in early 1995.

I really like about half of this album, but THE EXODUS HAS BEGUN is probably his funkiest song from the 90s. It feels like the mothership had landed at Paisley. GREAT TUNE!

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/
