Roger Troutman & Prince:Whos More Talented These are my two favorite artists of all time. And I just wanna know who do u think is more talented? Roger can play guitar, bass, drums, keyboard obviously and he can sing, so can Prince. I can't choose.

Roger's one of my favorite artists of all time, but I think Prince has the edge for having more range - Roger stayed within the realm of funk, r&b, with touches of blues and jazz, but Prince has done classical, folk, acoustic, orchestral stuff.... |

Umm, I don't get it. Why do you need to choose?

You did make the post, right? Your words were, "I can't choose." Why do you need to?

...to choose what? It's not a competition. You like them both. They do their own thing. That's that.

To choose who more talented...it's the same thing as saying who's better,Prince or MJ, Pepsi or Coke. I asked because I wanted to know what people think. Chill, if it's wrong for me to ask this question, it should be wrong for people to ask what is Prince best album.

Your question makes no sense and this is the wrong forum for it anyway - why would you ask a bunch of Prince fans if the lead singer of Zapp was more talented? Stupid. Beyond the stupidity of the question, why do you feel the need to qualify them that way? You can enjoy them both. One is not better than the other. They aren't in competition like Pepsi and Coke. Neither were Prince or MJ and questions like THAT get bounced outta here real quick.

Umm, I just used the search engine, and I seen threads about who better, Prince or Stevie Wonder,Prince or George Michael etc..Go attack those people who answered the question. Because they seemed really opened to give their opinions.

It's perfectly reasonable for people to debate about who is more talented than who. I don't see the problem.
Nothing is a hard cold fact in a debate like this, people just have different opinions, and intellectual debate is how we can all learn from knowledgable people. |

I knew Roger personally. I won't be a douchebag that claims we were buddies, but we did know each other. Roger was one hell of a player (I believe they even toured together briefly). I even had to defend Roger on this very board.
If you have a need to quantify core talent, Prince has to win, if for no other reason than this; the voice box wasn't just a gimmick for Roger, he needed it because his natural voice wasn't quite strong enough to be a true "point man".
Now some may argue that Prince's voice isn't quite "Vandrossian" either. My response to that is, "So the fuck what." Give me a musician that can sing adequately, and treats his/her voice as AN instrument, instead of a cutesy moron like Mariah Carey that thinks her voice is THE instrument any day.
Roger's achilles heel was his voice couldn't really stand on its' own. Prince's can.
P.S. Roger's crew (with the exception of Lester) were cool as fuck. Dale Groat, Shirley Murdock, Clet, all of them were some of the nicest people I've met.

I think by the 90's, Roger's natural voice had improved a lot. There were a few songs on "Bridging The Gap" where he sang without the talkbox, but I dig what you're saying. And yeah, Zapp toured with Prince in 1982 I believe |

No, I just don't find the need to constantly ascribe random hierarchies to shit. It's so typically Western.

Im not kidding, Who the HELL is Roger Troutman??????

Please confirm this.
Prince is not credited anywhere on the liner notes (I don't see any of his aliases either)
It's not like Roger singled out Prince on that track, he was namedropping a lot of people.
The guitar tone at the end of It Really Doesn't Matter is distinctly Roger as well.

Thats because he's not Granted, Mr.Nelson's influence was unavoidable back in the 80s. I could hear him all over New Horizon's "Your Thing" and Suga's re-recording of "Fire".
As for the who's more talented? Thats hard to say. Roger is THEE best rhythm guitarist that ever graced this earth, but on a larger scope, Prince wins because he gave me the whole packaging(lyircs, music, the whole shebang). Like Prince, Roger gave me a big dose of escapism, but where he lacked in his lyrics writing, he sure compensated in musicianship.
