BATDANCE: what is being said at the beginning?

"Get up ya'll the funk out!" or

"Get up ya'll the fuck up!" or

"Get the fuck up!" or

"Get up ya'll. Funk out!"

what do you think? The last one seems to fit.

If you listen closely, you can hear him saying: "Don't buy the Batman album, I'm sorry!" razz

Isn't that too few syllables?

"Get the funk up!" is what it says in the songbook, but it sure sounds like "Get y'all the funk up!"

Not to my ears. Maybe you're hearing echo or aspiration as an extra syllable?

Get the funk up.

i was listening to that album yesterday and it is much better than I remember. I was rocking all the way to Lemon Crush... then it sort of died, but The Future, Trust, Electric Chair, Partyman (especially Partyman!) all rocked. Vicki Waiting was great. Arms of Orion was better than I remembered (great vocal interplay and it shows off Prince's range better than many songs).

Overall I was very surprise that I had put this CD aside. I think it just got lost in the hype and it was after such an amazing run of great CDs that I forgot about it. Also, since none of it was on the Hits CD, I just put it aside but in retrospect, I really enjoyed it.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I never understood why Lemon Crush never really gets any love. That was actually one of my favs on the entire album. Yeah, the "jobba"/"robba" lines are kinda corny, but other than that, it's kinda funky.

It's my favorite track on the album. Often, its the only song from the album I even listen to.

the songbooks, even the album lyrics have been wrong with Prince songs in the past.

I'll listen in headphones but it sounds like two things are shouted:

"Get up ya'll - Funk out!"

lol, What? No...

It's "GET the FUNK. UP!" It's only 4 words, some of you are squeezing more in there.

It's because of the way Get is pronounced... like G-yet.

Dude, wish i could chip it off my CD and give it to you. Not a bad song but not my fav on the album, but hey that's what makes his catalog seem fuller. There is something for everyone.

There's definitely exaggeration on each word. But it's definitely only 4 words. You can hear silence between each of the words. There is reverb/echo on the sample. That's what people are mistaking for additional syllabels.

I often wonder if the dislike for this album is in respone to what the critics say about this lp.its good songs on this lp.but the response of the fans on here totally mirror the response from critics.which is odd.

It seems cobbled together and not so imaginative for Prince with a few songs like "Trust" or "Vicky Waiting", but I think The Future, Partyman, Batdance, Scandalous, and Lemon Crush are worthy of a Prince album. I like the chorus of Electric Chair but not the verses or melody of those verses at all.

"Get the fun cow". I am pretty sure that is accurate.

See, this lends credence to what I hear - "Drink Your Milk Up!". It's definitely something bovine in nature... of course Prince famously changed his mind on these matters later with the lyrics of Animal Kingdom. We should write the wiki page! biggrin

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

The best misheard lyric in this song I ever read about was the part near the end where he shouts "Don't stop dancin'!!!". I read an ACTUAL REVIEW (wish I could remember where...) that thought he was challenging MJ. The said something like "Prince even calls out his rival, shouting 'MICHAEL JACKSON!' at the song's climax."

I about died...but if you listen to it that way you can kinda hear it. Always cracks me up.
