I'm not really sure what you're asking. If you're saying that he's not using his potential to the fullest right now, maybe you're right. Maybe not. Remember, the Beatles had an intensely creative and productive TEN YEARS (1960 - 1970). Sure, individual members of the band put out some good tracks during the ten years AFTER they broke up, but do you really think they could have kept up the brilliance much longer?
Prince hit the ten-year mark in 1988 (Lovesexy). Yes, he produced some good tracks during the 20 years AFTER that, but you can't keep expecting GOLD. I think, maybe, we should consider everything after 1988 gravy.

Let someone else control his music? Good luck with that.

maybe that's just his problem... it's not about control,it's about direction/advice...

One thing we all need to do is come to grips that P is no longer a 'Pop Artist' like a Lady Ga Ga or some other radio friendly artist. If I'm not mistaken didn't Prince do a 180 after the Purple Rain Era? My meaning 'Around the Word in a Day' was after 'Purple Rain' and a lot of people who were fans up to that point becuz of the radio friendly music thought he lost his 'fire' then. I'm not one of thoz believers that S.O.T.T. is one of P's greatest albums. I know of the boots and the un-released music and there are a TON of gems out there that HAVEN'T been released but, what happened, to answer your question, Prince seemed to become disenfranchised with the music business and just loves making music.
He's no longer a starving artist either and that's one of the things that may have him be the way he is now. I on the other hand believe the only person or people who may know P's music as much as he knows it himself is Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Prince's music would at least be recognized by Urban Radio on the ethnic side of things (R&B or Soul Music) stations. There's no other producer I would wanna see work with Prince ... Personally speaking ... Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
