Was Anybody Else Dissappointed With Love Song? This could have been just an incredible song, two of the biggest performers at the time Prince and Madonna, and this is what they come up with? It just felt anti climatic to me, just a boring kind of song imo. What are your thoughts? Hey baby! Don't get me in here actin' silly now! You're not taping this are you... ????

I wasn't disappointed at all! It's a great song!

I loved it then and still do today. Not sure what you were expecting, but it wasn't a letdown for me. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

I was disappointed too. I liked the beat, but it's a pretty akward song imho. I agree that it's kinda boring....

The only song with Madonna on it that I allow myself to listen to.

Yeah, probably one of the weakest on that album.

No.
I love Madonna and Prince both soo much, they are truly my favorites. I can't choice if I love Madonna or Prince more actually.
But no, I love it!!! it's great!

I think I was like 14 when someone gave me the album (don't even remember the title) for my birthday.I ended up listening only to that track. I was not even a Prince fan then.

At first listen, I was underwhelmed. But it grew to be one of the favorites.
However, I still don't think it fit the album. It sticks out like a sore thumb, its not always a good thing.

I disagree. I think it acts as a perfect bridge from "Express Yourself" into "Til Death Do Us Part". It fits the theme of distressed relationships perfectly. The woman in "Express Yourself" is the survivor from "Til Death Do Us Part" with "Love Song" acting as a leech to remove the romance aspect of "Express Yourself" ('this is not a love song that I want to sing') before heading into a story about why the relationship broke up ('he's not in love with her anymore').

I wasn't a Prince fan when I first heard this song but I was when the song finnished.
I think it's from a flawless album (actually one of the top 5 pop albums of all time). I think that part of it's genius aswell is in the sequencing of the whole album aswell
To be honest i'm glad they didn't do an obvious syrupy top 40 ballad duet or cheesy dance number. Two of the most commercial artists of the period give us what sounds like an off kilter late night experiment.
The vocals and guitars by prince are loose free and have alot of character. Madonna's keyboard and vocals have a great sense of humor and dramtic flourish.
In short I love it

Exactly what I thought. There are not many songs that can sonicly and thematicly bridge a big sax number about female empowerment and a synth number about domestic violence and low self esteem. The song was just sarcasticly romantic enough and sonicly atmospheric enough to pull it off.

I can see that from a lyrical perspective, but musically, it sounds out of place.

It's pretty underwhelming because of the expectation.
Do we think that they did a track like this on purpose to fuck with people? You these are two popstars into fucking with people, and no doubt when you two big stars together, people were expecting something explosive and amazing, so what better way to fuck with people than to give them something more low key?.... Personally I think that's a backfire unless the track is completely amazing, which it isn't it's just a simple little ditty.

Actually, I bought that album during my Madonna fanatic phase, which was before I became a fan of Prince. So, I didn't really know what to expect, in fact, I was kinda indifferent to the fact that she recorded with him.
It wasn't until I became a fan that I appreciated its quirkiness and off-beat nature

I really need to read my posts begore hitting submit I always miss words out of my posts
I can imagine P & Madge getting off on the fact that the record company thought they had $$$$ on their hands with them teaming up, so they did a more maudlin, off beat track, rather than a big sexy funk/dance stomper. Cheeky buggers!

When I bought the "Like a prayer" album I had no clue Prince did anything on it. When the song came on I couldn't believe it. I was so excited. I guess with me having no expectation from the begining, it made me like the song because of the suprise. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

When I first heard it I was amazed how under the radar it had gone in general. I can understand why some might dislike it, but I think it could have been at least a TOP10 hit.

Great song. And I love it how he answers 'no' and 'what?'
Should never be sung but by the two of them. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I've been meaning to listen to this song for a long time but never got around to it, your thread finally made me listen to it.
I've listened to it twice and there are parts of it that I like but overall it's not very good. I give it 4 out of 10.

best thing madonna ever did .. probably not prince finest work tho .. still a fun track

I was really expecting a monster funk/dance stomper of a track, considering around this time sott was released and imo that is princes' best work, and madonnas' like a prayer is her best work imo. To each their own i guess. Hey baby! Don't get me in here actin' silly now! You're not taping this are you... ????

it's perfect. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Well, they didn't make a pop single, so that might be dissappointing for history's sake, but the song itself was like a cool prince b-side experiment.
What if Madonna had been given "101"? And she had made a killer video for it with David Fincher (since he did many of her other big videos from that album)? My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

i think it's ok . not a big hit or nothing, of course, but a decent little song For all time I am with you, you are with me.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes at the time of its release I was expecting something more than just pure filler music from both of them. I tried and tried to like it but just couldnt because its just not a very good duet. The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I mean, it's a decent tune and it's forever on my playlists...
...but like someone already mentioned; this was a collaboration between the two biggest acts on earth (subjectively speaking of course). This song needed to blow our heads off of our shoulders.
Dissapointed, YES. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
