At age 20, Marylou Badeuax was working at an insurance company, and she was miserable. Her life took a dramatic turn when a friend in the personnel department at Warner Bros. Records helped her land a job in the company’s black music department, as one of just six employees. (By the time she left in 1995, the department had grown to 60). Year after year, Warner Bros. continued to be the number one black music label and Marylou worked with hundreds of successful artists, including Prince.
