The disc states its 100 mins, region 0 full screen and 5.1 digital audio, the company is headliner.

Does it have the same artwork?

No, its just a pic of him on the cover in b and w, looks like its from the parade era. I just popped it in, and i believe its the same concert that was released on vhs, its just great to have this on dvd, the pic quality is ok, a bit dark, but u can adjust it, so far the 5.1 audio is pretty good, cool for only 15 bucks. Hey, i'm happy. biggrin I believe you can still order this on amazon.ca for all u non canadians.
Hey baby! Don't get me in here actin' silly now! You're not taping this are you... ????

Hmmm, sounds similar to that Sign O' Times Brazilian release where they used a picture of Prince during the 1999 era lol . The video quality was crap and the subtitles were hilarious. I'm not saying the video quality on this release will be crap as well, I'll have to be the judge of that when I get it, but I don't feel so optimistic based on your discription. Thanks.

Yes, this is the same release as the vhs, with no major pic upgrade, but the sound is pretty good, and the dvd won't skip or have pops and cracks like the vhs.So for those who want to see Prince at his prime i recommend this dvd, since we may never get an official dvd or blu ray release, and at 15 bucks, it doesn't break your bank. biggrin

There's a review now at Amazon that doesn't paint a pretty picture. But if it's on par with the VHS, I'm happy. At least the DVD won't degrade every time you watch it.

Here's the text of the first review, for simplicity's sake:

"This is a DVD release of the famous 1985 ''Prince & The Revolution Live''. All I have to say is why the hell Warner Bros. did not release this one like they did for other VHS in Prince catalog. No, instead we get a crappy tranfered region free German release. On top of that we get to see an little icon of the actual DVD label (Headliners) showing at every song in the corner of your screen. I am not watching at TV Network, I purchased the DVD. Sound indicate 5.1 but I had to boost my subwoofer to get a fair quality. All I have to say is keep your VHS copy, it is 10 times better. I am shure his royal badness wouldn't allow this poor release. What a shame!!!"

Interesting about the logo popping up all the time. I couldn't accept that...

It's strange that these bootlegs are getting through some loophole into legit sales. Just like the Brazilian DVD of SOTT.

Not cool!

I have the laserdisc of this show. It seems (from what I read) that it may still be the best quality version. I wonder if the 5.1 audio on the dvd is

Dunno what happened there on the last post....

I have the laserdisc of this show. It seems (from what I read) that it may still be the best quality version available. I wonder if the 5.1 audio on this dvd is genuine or if it is faked out like some of the fan made 5.1 remasters of his CD's

I have the laser disc as well, and it definitely is the best version of the show out of the official releases. The next best is the Beta tape (which I have too) the worst is the VHS.

This arrived in the mail yesterday. I'll post some pics. It is the Live! show. It is cropped to 1.33:1 (The Original Aspect) and includes both a 2 channel stereo track and a 5.1 track. I have not put it in the player hooked to the 7.1 so I cannot say if it adds anything or not.

The picture is not bad, but not cleaned up in any way either. If I had to guess, this is a rip of the laserdisc edition.

The logo of the DVD company pops up in the corner of the screen from time to time, as if this was on TV.

The cover photo is not even from the Purple Rain era, it look like the Parade era. The back has a bio stolen from somewhere. It was familiar as I read it, and has a few blurry pics of the show.

If all you have is the VHS copy, it is worth 15 bucks. If you are a completist, just order it now.

Just writing this and viewing, I am glad to have this on DVD, without producing it myself. Probably the best we will see for a few more years.

The 5.1 makes the reciever indicate 5.1, but no sound is sent to the back channels!

I thought that was pretty funny.

Anyone remember how much time passed between the Brazil version of Sign O the Times DVD and the vastly superior Canadian version?

Maybe something similar will happen with this one?

difference is that SOTT was shot on film and wasn't owned by WB and this was shot in videotape so is very hard and costly to improve PQ to current standards. that's why pulse took ages to get released on dvd. floyd spent a fortune cleaning it up for dvd

if you have the master reals of film you can make HD masters, which is what is happening with loads of movies on bluray

WB could still put it out, but there must be something to do with prince that needs agreement first

Well there was no relationship between the Brazlian bootleg one and the actual professional Canadian DVD that was made off of the HD transfer that was made at that time (and showed on Encore HD).

I received mine on Thursday, but haven't opened it yet. I thought the packaging looked more like a boot and was thinking of returning it unopened. So Mars, do you think this looks/sounds like it was 'professionally' done or is it just a copy that someone got into Amazon's distribution system somehow?

I would say this is the sister to the Brazillian "Sign O' the Times" DVD.

It is not great, but it is the only DVD of the show you can buy.

You could make this yourself with what is out there.

I'm keeping it, but then again, I kept the Brazillian SOTT DVD as well.
