Prince's Live Peak

When was Prince's live peak for you. For me it's from Post-Purple Rain 1985 to end of Nude Tour 1990.

I wasnt lucky enough to go to anything before D&P but from what I've been too since (which is everything that's hit the UK) I'd say D&P to Gold Experience is the best I've seen but that might be because everything else since has been 'coasting' the Greatest Hits whereas the shows I mentioned were spectacles.

Always thought Sign O The Times and Lovesexy looked ace though

As a musician, I would say the One Nite Alone tour.

As a show I would say Lovesexy.

As a best tour I would say Purple Rain.

As a preferred set list I would say the Live Experience Tour.

As I personal favourite live experience its a tie between Emporium 95 and Indigo night 13th Sept (the longest ever aftershow).

Peaked in 1979. Since then he has lip synced every tour.

Is that true - the final night went on for nearly 3.5 - 4 hrs if I remember correctly...but I was fairly giddy by the end of it.

Co-sign! He was definitely at the peak of his powers at that point. I might even consider adding 1990's Nude Tour to the mix, but I'd have to take Tony M out of the show completely to do that. It was pretty much his first "greatest hits" tour, and it sounded so MUCH better than any other greatest hits tour he's done since.

Me too biggrin

I could be wrong, but I though someone timed the 13th as the longest on record, at least musically.

I loved the last night too, but it was much more drawn out, with other artists and breaks.

The 13th had awesome tracks and length! Everytime we thought he was gone for good he came back. finish at 4am if my memory serves, from a 12.25 start.

Hit n Run and the Musicology Aftershows were out of control...

Wish I was able to see Sign o the Times here in the States... SOT & The Nude Tour seem like they were excellent...

Whenever it was, he's past it now I'm afraid.

I know, I know, we all love the mantras of "but it's still better than anything else on radio" and "he's still the best live performer going" - Unfortunately after 15+ years, these catchphrases have turned sour.

Well, it depends, if you want peak physicality and theatricality, anything in the mid to late eighties will do. If you want pristine musicianship and stellar vocal performances, the last ten years is where it's at.
