Could a solo piano version improve "The Arms of Orion?"

A lot of fans think this is one of Prince's weaker songs and that it sounds too similar to a lot of the adult contemporary ballads of that era. I tend to agree but do you think if Prince did the song with just his voice and piano that it would sound any better? Or is this song destined to be a turd no matter how he plays it?

It's fine how it is. I like this song, but it would be interesting to hear a piano only version.

Anytime Prince changes arrangements on songs, they always sound either different-good or way better. The song is very cheesy and sappy, but I like it and think its fine the way it is. The whole Batman album is fuckin' genius if you ask me. I just which the kind of creativity he had back then would come out again.

I've heard the piano version and it touches me in the way GOD (Love theme from Purple Rain) does. I love them both.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Its the choice of production that makes the song syrupy. The song writing itself is top drawer.

Interesting thought.

Yes, I think it would be better that way. It could have worked a bit better on the album itself with just some minor tweaks as well. I don't blame Prince for wanting to make sappy ballads once in a while, because he's always done all kinds of music and probably needs to do different styles of music to stay creative.

not in this life lol

The Compromise Theory:
Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives.
The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists.
Is it a deal?

To be honest, I never understood why TAOF gets so much hate from P fans.

It's a ballad penned for a "soundtrack but not soundtrack" to a blockbuster-movie, and it is absolutely right in that way.

Musically talking, it is obviously not "Purple Rain" or "Adore", but to my ears it is not worse than a lot of ballads released by P from D&P to 20Ten.

Anyway, it is just a matter of musical taste. Who likes it, who doesn't likes it.
