How did Prince meet Larry Graham

I noticed on the little video they played at the concert, Larry said Prince was always at his concerts, does anyone know how this friendship came to be?

Don't know, don't care... all I know is that this meeting was the beginning of the end for Prince.

lol Wow, LG seems like a cool cat, Prince is not that impressionable but I understand LArry influenced him. Maybe he wanted a change in his life, Prince's relationship with God changed him, but anyway, just curious on how they met.

Prince met Larry at a Jam Of The Year aftershow in Nashville on August 23rd 1997.

Sinbad (the comedian) was on tour, and part of his tour featured Graham Central Station.

Sinbad and his crew including Larry attended the Nashville aftershow, with Graham joining the NPG on stage to play bass.

After this show, Graham Central Station began opening for Prince on the 2nd and 3rd leg of the Jam Of The Year Tour in the USA.

The rest is history.

Graham and Prince had originally met in 1977-78 as Graham was also signed to Warners, but it was not until the 1997 meeting that they became close friends.

Read through this thread and you'll know when and how they met: http://prince.org/msg/3/351553 . It's in there somewhere.

Yes, because Prince meeting Larry is comparable to Kennedy's Assasination, Pearl Harbor, and 9/11

Prince had a concert scheduled at the Gaylord/Bridgestone Arena that night at 8:00 pm. This was Prince's first appearance in Nashville since the Rick James tour. We waited and waited and waited until someone said that Prince was across town at the Starwood Ampitheater watching Sinbad's Summer Soul Festival. Prince did not appear on stage until 11:00 pm .

The aftershow was at the legendary Music City Mix Factory and that aftershow was worthy of being mentioned with the legendary aftershows in Prince history. Everyone who was at the Starwood show was at the Mix Factory. I did not see Larry and Tina but sometime that day/night Prince started following Larry Graham.

Larry told the story on Sinbad's show when they were all on there promoting the New Power Soul/GCS200/C2MH triple pack. Larry kept calling Prince "Baby brother." Just cuz the guy's short don't mean he's your baby brother. Jeez.

if larry and chaka khan didnt join the new power soul tour, his road shows at that time would have been over. he had a hard time selling out arenas.

He talked about it on Vibe in '98. If I remember right, Prince atteneded one of his shows and then Larry attended one of his the next night.

IMO - It seems like Larry came in around the time his baby died....as we all know...when you are sad its easy to fall into something or start to believe in something that helps you heal and feel good. I am sure Larry became a friend and not a (yes friend), so Prince started to also study the "Truth" with him.
