The Homecoming 83 (not 82: ) It's been done before I know, but has there ever been anything more powerful, full of emotion, raw talent and optimism ever played by Prince and the Revolution, or any other artist/group for that matter?
Even though my sound recording is a bit top end, it loses none of the energy and high octane brilliance. It's the perfect set in my opinion. Made all the better by the fact that he was just hitting the mainstream and big time. Purple rain just around the corner.
Highlight for me is the solo which preludes 'how come you don't call me'.
5 stars
Any other comparisons? Or shows I should hear that you think are even better?
Thanks

Prince played the Met Center in Minneapolis on 7th March 1982.
The only other show in Minneapolis that Prince played in 1982 was at First Avenue the following night from the Met Center show (8th March), but "How Come U Don't Call Me" was not played at either of those shows.
Maybe you are thinking of the Met Center show in 1983? On the 1999 tour?

You're absolutely right - 83 not 82.
Pretty fine show though, don't you think? |

I really like the 1999 tour recordings in general.
4DaFunk's "Detroit '82" and "Providence '83" are good 1999 shows, and both in excellent soundboard quality.
Sabotage's "1999 Revisited" is another good one to track down, again in soundboard.

Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Root Beer, Pussy,,,,
Love the Talking Heads reference.
And I agree, the Detroit show is pretty wild, especially at the end when he got into "How Come U Don't Call Me" till "International Lover"(One song I NEVER cared for until I heard this set). This show and the rehearsal from 1999 Revisited have the BEST versions of "Lady Cab Driver" IMO. |

Yes, the 1999 shows were amazing to hear. That was a great tour! The Detroit show in late 1982 is a classic show from that era. That setlist was tight! I know some people that attended those Detroit shows from the 1999 Tour and all they can say is that those shows were great. "Lady Cab Driver" live version from the Detroit show from late 1982 and that version off that rehearsal in early 1983 is the best I've heard of that song. |

I didn't think it was possible to make Lady Cab Driver any funkier, but he sho'nuff did it!! Gawd, I'mma have to pull my City Lights version out right now! |

Isn't that the DVD that also includes the Vanity 6 and The Time performances? That's a bloody excellent DVD!!!
Yeah, Prince was on fire there, as was The Time. Their performance was ace, they were probably even tighter than Prince's band! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time... |

I have viewed a small number of various shows from the 1999 tour and my big question is: What show from that tour is the best quality on film? Anyone who has a purple belt in live recordings have a definitive answer? |

I do have a DVD of it, but it's only Prince and the Revolution. It's pretty certainly the show that Digitalgardener talked about. It sounds like this whole bunch of shows were pretty damn good.
Here's the setlist
