Since I have no opinion on your auntie, I will give you my opinion on ATWIAD.

It's great.

It's one of my least favorite Prince albums. I don't care how complex, atypical, musically adventurous, or otherwise Beatle-esque it is. Almost all of the album is put-me-to-sleep boring.

show your aunt a CD player and let 'auntie van winkle' know that times they are a changing! lol

seriously, it is a great album, but a CD is even more convenient. Trust me.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Welcome to 1985 motherfucker!

Hopefully new generations discover Prince's albums with no prejudice for what year they came out.

By the time I got into the Beatles, Lennon was dead and the band had been broken up for about 20 years. The music is the music.

True.

I wasn't just being flippant there.

he and his artistry was a different beast back then.

I hear ya.

I'll be turning 40 this November, which means I was what, 13-14 when ATWIAD came out? I had the luck to have enjoyed Prince's career from 1982 (the 1999 album) onward as it was happening. Every album, side project, movie, video, etc. - all NEW at the time.

I don't even know how I'd introduce someone to Prince's music nowadays. Maybe the same way I heard it (in order) . . . or maybe The Hits/B-Sides as an "essential" collection, then branch out.

I have never, ever, heard this album on vinyl. I must correct that one day. I suspect Condition of the Heart would sound aMAZing, with its ultra-wide dynamic range...

I smashed my vinyl record to a million little bits. It was in the middle of an argument with my mom, teenager thing. I would give anything to see my mom now.

It is a great record though.

Got my copy from Fopp on Cockburn Street for about £5 in 1989 - God knows where it is now (with the rest of my vinyl in Burnley no doubt!!)...but endeavouring to get all the albums I had on tape on vinyl, then get me a 1210 from somewhere.

Love hearing atwiad on vinyl, just sounds so warm and complete...even the crackle and scratches a teenage me managed to put on it. The turntable and needle I had must have raped the fuck out of the grooves tho...soon, I will know.

Ur aunty's cool. Give her a hug from me.

Still have my original vinyl from 85. I still think it sounds better than the CD (as does ALL of the 80s albums).

As for opinion about the album...I run hot and cold. There are times that is all I want to hear...but once I am done with it I am done for awhile. Not in my top 5, more like top 10.

love this album. prince had been evolving his new wave funk, along with the trenchcoat look since dirty mind. on atwiad he has the bollocks to totally deconstruct both and deliver a quirky masterpiece that was a statement of intent. it paved the way for the genre jumping of parade and sign o the times. also contains his most underappreciated track, tamborine.

don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

Agree Tamborine is THE most underappreciated Prince track ever. Don't agree with the Tick Tick Bang comment...although that 81 version is slammin.

How could he recapture Tamborine with Tick, Tick Bang when Tick, Tick, Bang was written first? confuse
