Mel B Interview I just saw a cd on ebay that has something called "the Mel B Interview." It's 17 minutes long! What the heck is it? Has anybody heard it? I can't imagine the interaction between the Artist and a Spice Girl! I'm intrigued!

It's the Beautiful Strange dvd. He had an interview with Mel B. The dvd follows up with a concert from the New Power Soul era and some promotional videos from that album.

The Beautiful Strange release can be downloaded from the interwebs for free. Don't pay someone on ebay for doing the same.

It was a great interview. They were playful and complimentary with each other. Prince's Sarah

This was filmed in 1998 for Channel 4 (UK) and was broadcast as part of a Prince night called 'Beautiful Strange' with video clips of Prince recording that song along with a recording from the August 98 Cafe De Paris gig in London. It was transmitted in the UK in Oct 98. The Mel B interview is quite amusing, worth a look.

The film you describe is "Beautiful Strange," but the CH4 Prince night was titled "An evening of music, chat, and live performance with The Artist Formerly Known As Prince."

Wow, someone's been spending a bit too much time in here LOL

Playful and complimentary is one way of putting it....I belive (and I could be wrong) she later claimed he was trying a bit too hard

Really? Ok, if you say so.

All it takes is a little bit of Googling, and you would've had your answer MUCH faster.

I always found it a little embarrassing.
Prince was being chilled and playful, but Mel looked a bit overawed ( I think I would be too!).
Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

Naw, it's just Prince knowledge. I would be proud of myself to recall that Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Yes but she's being pedantic, what I was saying was perfectly clear, the piece was called Beautiful Strange and if she knew all along why didnt' she answer before me?!!? That is the question!! [Edited 5/4/11 10:12am]

Sounds like this place is getting to you, maybe it's you who is spending too much time here....

Nah, i just don't like people being pedantic when they don't need to be, its a bit like a schoolyard kind of thing, it was a very small point but some people in here just nitpick to the Nth degree. I think its better to help people by answering them direct rather than waiting for someone else to do it and then criticise it

I thought you thought that the Prince night on CH4 was called Beautiful Strange, that is all. It was not my intention to come across as nitpicking.
I made a correction, based on my assumption, there was no malice involved.

As for the interview, I found it a little cringeworthy, I thought Mel certainly was in awe, as one would expect I suppose.
The music on the rest of the film is not bad, though i'm sure they could have shown more of Prince and less of "the guests."

The slow motion run to the swing needs to be deleted from reality! My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

It was quite interesting hearing Mel's quite inane questions but she was quite warm, the only thing is I think Prince seemed a bit arrogant when he said he would be going to heaven or words to that effect. When she asked who influenced him he said Larry Graham and Chaka Khan, he's always quite humble at complimenting the people he works with. However, it would arguably be more accurately for him to say Jimi Hendrix - you only have to see pictures of him to see the influence on Prince's look and style!

A Prince fan once argued me down, saying he didn't see ANY Hendrix in Prince at all!!
My reaction then was 'what?' And that is still my reaction. I never saw or read an interview where Prince mentions Hendrix... but, anytime he straps on a guitar and goes for a distorted solo, I always see and hear elements of Hendrix (especially in the 80's). Even when I was a kid-Purple Rain era, my thoughts were 'wow, he's like a new Jimi Hendrix'....
As for the interview, was that the one that appeared on VH1 around 1997? I seem to remember them sitting on stair steps talking... is it that one?

Hi Gemari.. he definately takes the look and influence of Jimi Hendrix in his earlier act! He was also really into mentioning purple too think Purple Haze! I also think he borrows a lot from Little Richard with the androgenous look. I'm not sure if it's the same show as on Vh1 prob not as it was first screened in 1998 on channel4 and think it was an exclusive but don't quote me on that!
