- And Prince loves uplifting songs, for dance floors. It´s more likely that he listens to TLC and BEP at home than Charles Mingus.

Prince likes MONEY. That's what he likes when hears BEP's track.

Oprah made it even bigger & used it as her theme song 4 a bit. Prince knows what he is talking about. He has had a few momentum hit songs himself. "Purple Rain" is one of them. If hear another "casual" Prince fan say that is there favorite Prince song again will puke. But glad Prince has humbled himself 2 congratulate Will I Am... do like there songs 2....
Like it or not "LayDown" is a going 2 b a mega hit & is a masterpiece& inspired by B.E.P..... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I was at the MSG on 2/7, it was the day after the Superbowl...even though he always says "real music by real musicians", I had the impression that he was taking a stab at the BEP with comments he made that night because of their less than memorable, quite painful SuperBowl halftime show. I dunno, I agree with most of you that he was simply being polite. As much as he seems to have a disdain for overproduced, digital music, this would beem a bit odd that he'd genuinely "like" this song. But, that song is for people who I guess enjoy shopping malls, draft beer, top 40 radio and live their lives through TV shows...Prince is a musical genuis, so I guess it's a bit strange that he'd like a song that's so, um, overproduced and without real instruments. It's definitely a zeitgeist song, guaranteed to go down well at any event.

The first time I listened to "My humps" I thought it amateurish, badly written, cheesy but "catchy". I thought it was purposely designed as an ode to homemade cheap sounding classics like "Supersonic"
But I think Will i am is just as terrible hack of an artist with a knack for making "catchy cheese". If Prince likes it, it is because Prince has been rocking that "cheese" like nobodies business since the 90's. If only he could make his cheese catchy he could join Will i am at the top 10 or at Chucky Cheese birthday celebrations.
Someone mentioned zeitgeist. I think that may be a factor too. I think Will's cheese is more readily acceptable because he is from this generation. Cheese from your contemporaries is more aceptible than cheese by your father or grandfather. Hence Prince's problem. Hence Prince's success with "Cream" who's working title was "Cheese"
I got a feeling "I gotta feeling " is not going to age well with any other generation other that today's generation as it get's older. It will be this generation's "Copacabana" but in "cheese" only. Because Barry Manilow is a talented artist, and as cheesy as "Copacabana" is, it is not the amateurish piece of crap that only Will i am could possibly take.

OMG!! what the fuck? Prince inspired by this group that's best known for a woman who pissed her pants and continued singing??? Okay........ that's just fucking ridiculous. Black Eyed Pissers are like processed hot dogs... and we know what Prince thinks about hot dogs!! You could not give me free tickets to watch these guys "perform" ... they look like clowns. That idiot will i suk couldn't even do a commercial without using that voice machine or whatever it is.. that is just proof that anybody can sing if they have that computer crap!

Laydown was a last input on a cd that was given away for free. I like the song, but it ain't new... it ain't gonna be a hit and it was not inspired by those jackasses.

Plus... when Prince performed it on Lopez, didn't he play instruments?? bep's junk can be down with a few simple downloads....just what popeaters love.

Thanks. | |

not too far fetched, he's not the first middle aged person I know that loves this song....
but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it either!

Well, I prefer the original of 'I Got a feeling' , not the BEP - cover...

I think Will I. Sham read way more into that comment than what it was. I think he assumed Prince loved the song, but IMO sounds like Prince was just being friendly & political. Prince congratulated him, while he was on his home turf, on having an a "hit" with some longevity (ugh is right). That's not the same thing as loving a song.
I don't see where it says Prince said it was a GREAT song....Prince basically told him he was "good for you & you're lucky", lol. That kid is such a douchebag.

RIGHT!! I've seen the Oprah performance and if that doesn't get U in a good mood after a bad day...than I don't know what will!!
I love BEP since Joints&Jam (still a great groove!), that song thaey did with Macy Gray and even the more commercial/pop stuff since Fergie joined : Where is the love, My humps, Poom poom poom, I gotta feeling and some more.... NO, they aren't a rock band or musicians but they make good dance/R&B/pop hit-music just like some others did in the past; JT,Timbaland,Pharrel, MJ...oh yeah, and Prince!! I'd take that with a BIG-assed pinch of salt, considering most of the crap that comes out of Will.I.Ams mouth is exactly that - CRAP.
*Another example being when he declared that James Cameron would be shooting the first 3D concert movie of their show.
One, James Cameron said that was never the case.
Two, they weren't the first.

I believe that Prince was referring to the financial gain of having a song like that in their catalog. I've heard Prince say that he LOVES 'Purple Rain' [I think he's honest about it, because....of course...he wrote it], but when he says it, I believe that he's saying from also the $ he's made [& keeps making off of it]. I seem to hear more covers of stuff that Prince wrote for others being used than his own songs off his albums. He's jammed with The Roots, but he didn't let them use 'The Ballad of Dorothy Parker' did he? But he let Snoop remake 'Cool'.......
