stories about prince recording songs? two of the more famous stories are the recording of 7 and the keyboard track for the Stevie Nicks song Stand Back
the story for 7 goes something like this. Prince showed up in the studio and started recording track after track while his band waited. He didn't stop to listen to what he had so far to figure out what to do next, he didn't redo parts, he just kept recording the different parts until he was done. The result was the finished song.
the story for stand back goes something like this. Stevie Nicks heard Little Red Corevette on the radio, which inspired her to write Stand Back. When she thought it was done, she called Prince and asked him to come to the studio to listen to it. He listened once, then had them play it back while he added a keyboard track that pretty much makes the song and then left. One listen, one recording and it was perfect.
Does anyone have better detailed versions of these stories or know of any other similar stories? [Edited 4/22/11 14:46pm] | |

I hadn't heard the story of 7 being recorded. Where did this come from? The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018.
