Prince and Prom

Yes, it's prom season biggrin 4 those of you who went, was Prince ever played at your prom? If so, what song?

My prom is April 30th, and no, no purple dress for me. I'm going decked in red and sparkles. But I believe we're going to have a DJ that will take requests on songs periodically throughout our 3 1/2 hour prom, and I'm wondering what Prince song I should request (either romance or dance). lol, everyone who's there will know who had requested it. but I'm leaning towards Adore, but its so cliche, but everyone most likely knows that song cuz that's all they basically play on our R&B radio station. So that probally will fit scene most.

I dont want to scare them either with something too different, but would want some song to fit the scene without it sounding too dated for these musically declined teenagers of today's time, unlike me wink. So right now I'm also considering Beautiful Ones and somewhat DMSR (personal party fav) What do u think?

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

They played "If I Was Your Girlfriend" at my junior high prom (or whatever it was called). They faded it out before the end of the song.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

DMSR is a good choice. It has a funky groove 2 it that I'm sure will get some of those sucka's heads bobbing, and some bodies moving.

Lol I see your point on Kiss, but the other ones... nahh those will surely go over their heads. maybe for a Prince fan prom, but not a 2011 prom.

Oh, man I wanna dance to DMSR so bad! that would be cool as hell. Might have to bring the Prince pod along just in case I have to hook it up to DJ's computer to play extended dance version wink

Aahh prom, a lifetime ago. I do remember Kiss being played for sure and I'm sure that I tipped the d.j. to play more Prince. What I do remember for sure is tipping the d.j. to play Alexander O'Neal's "Sunshine" at the end of the night. Had broken up with my girlfriend at least 6 months earlier but I knew that this one song she would know was from me...and it worked smile

What is so funny about this thread is that I actually skipped my senior prom to go to my first Prince concert! So I don't know if they played any P there or not. lol

Have you thought about 'Let's Work' ?

Have a look at 'The W2A: Euro Tour Song Survey' http://prince.org/msg/12/362417

LOL for real!? I would've done the exact same too, but then I found out he was doing the 21 Night Stand during the time frame of my prom, hehe, so no ditching for me.

@ Trashcat: No, I haven't, although it would be cool! The long dance version, of course, but then I remember that Prince kinda goes crazy in the long dance version, hehe. I don't wanna scare them, cuz majority of these kids already believe/think Prince is what you already guess.

Omg, I would love to dance w/ my beau to "When We're Dancing". I call him my other man cuz my main man is Prince, lol. He knows this wink

WTF? Either prom has changed a lot in 12 years or I'm missing something.

"DMSR", "Do Me, Baby", and "Let's Work" would never, EVER have been allowed at my school.

Lol, yes my friend it has changed a lot. Basically they play the mainstream dance, party, and romance songs. Also most likely catch at least one grinding track being played at prom. Then afterwards, it's to the hotel rooms cool. Babies from babies are conceived every year from Warren Central High's proms, lol, even w/o Prince's help. But I can play my own Princey songs in my own company when I leave the dance floor wink

I work at a high schoo in Oaklandl, and let me tell you, the pheremones (sic?) get thick in that place....somebody usually is pregnant at the end.....I have stopped chaparoning because it's futile...I actually have felt quite uncomfortable, like I shouldn't even be there "watching" LOL!!

Also, Im pretty sure that all of my students would look extremely comfused in any of Prince's songs came on....

My point exactly, that's why I'm aiming towards more what is regularly played by Prince on the local radio (Adore, Do Me Baby, & my own choice Beautiful Ones). At least I'm have some chance there in recognition...
