Revolutionary said: I always wished larry wouldnt have hooked up with prince.i really dont like the guy. And I agree 100% With everything else you said.

Amen on the Larry stuff, I think he played puppet master when Prince had a vulnerable moment in his life and that's uncool.

I never understand the dislike for Larry Graham. The guy is a great musician. Also it seems as though he was there to help Prince through some very difficult moments in his life.

I think it is good that Prince found a friend in Larry that could help him find peace in his life. In life it is difficult to find friends that will walk with you through your lowest periods, and I sure that difficulty is multiplied by Prince's wealth and celebrity. I think the existence of Larry in his life is a positive if you consider how he might have sufffered if he had not had a friend to help him recover from his pain.

Many claim that he was at his so-called "creative peak" in the 80's and fans feel that because of his faith he has lost that edgeness in his music. In my opinion the music is secondary to the man, so if Prince the "man" has found peace and joy through the Jehovah Witness religion then I respect and appreciate that Larry was one of the people that helped him discover that peace.

A "what if" is something that almost happened but didnt - like what if Vanity stayed on and did Purple Rain as originally planned (my favorite). Or what if Prince actually did the Bad video with MJ as proposed.

How much better would the film have been with Vanity (no diss on Apples)?

Can you picture Prince in the subway with MJ grabbing his crotch adn dancing?

What is your fav?

The Apollonia character brought a certain "innocence" to the movie, something that I don't think that Vanity could have pulled "sweet, southern girl" off. Everyone was basically playing themselves and that's one of the things that made the movie believable imo. Vanity was just too edgy.

No, and I am glad that it didn't happen. If ever there was a song for them to do together, it should have been "The Girl is Mine." That would have made more sense to have a girl torn between MJ and P then MJ and PM.

Now, I think I started something with that one? Could you imagine that video and who the lucky girl could have been? biggrin

What if there was no piano in the basement when his parents broke up??

What if Prince had never signed the contract in 1992? Or took a lesser royalty to take his masters back?

What if Prince had never incorporated rap into his music and thusly stopped chasing trends as oppose to creating them and staying unique?

What if Prince didnt sack Wendy and Lisa?

What if Prince was actually a woman? Instead of pretending to be like one.

I actually think had Prince never had become 0(-> his career wouldve been VERY different.......he wont have been lambasted for years by fans, critics alike. He wouldve kept a world renown trademark name and never become an annoying joke in the industry. He would still be as almost as popular as old Prince.

'What if' every boot we know of up to this day was put on all the albums spread out thru his last 30yrs recording and performing.

'What if' every live show Prince did would be released on DVD, Vinyl and CD.

'What if' Prince and Mayte never got divorced.

'What if' Lisa and Wendy's contributions to the recordings of the past: Dream Factory and Roadhouse Garden were released and S.O.T.T. was put on the shelf like the Black Album originally was.

I got a TON of em ... LoL

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

1. If he ever did work with MJ.

2. If he didn't go all "Buy The Watchtower from me!".

3. If he and Mayte stayed together and had living children. (Or if he had children in general, I wonder what that would do to his music?)

I agree. What if he went out and adopted a few children, maybe one from every continent, Brangelina style? The true Rainbow Children. He could still do that now if he wanted.

We should pitch that idea to Prince himself ... Judging by him riding that bike last night - he'd be a terrific Dad.

If he's not open to an idea of little kids, he can always adopt me. biggrin

Huh - there are SO MANY WHAT IFS with Prince's career. For me the BIGGEST has to be...

The fall out with Warner Bros resulting in the name change.

Had that not happened I have no doubt the mid 90s would have been a very successful era (commercially) with the whole Come->TGE->C&D albums in their various formats/songlists.

Pure speculation but if the 93-95 time period had been very successful (with Warners behind TGE and if released in 94 instead of over a year late) then Prince would have been in a more powerful position to renegotiate his contract with WB.

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

He could adopt some older kids if he's concerned about being too old himself to raise young children. I think older kids who have been orphaned have a harder time finding families anyway. It would give him a new life experience to work into his music. cool

I guess another way of phrasing that would be, what if Mo Ostin somehow got the upper hand in the battles with other Warner execs and managed to keep the company artist-friendly?

I miss the old 80's/90's Prince, but if he's happy, I gotta be happy for the man lol

Yoko was to Lennon as Larry was to Prince sad

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I have wondered that too, but times has changed, so im not sure it all has to do, with his religious stand point, maybe im wrong, im sure alot of you will say i am LOL

I like 70's and early 80's prince music alot, like the Prince album & Dirty Mind album, but i never understood the whole i liked 80's 90's r today Prince thing, bcuz well i like all his music and i believe it all serves a purpose and defines a time in his career.

But yes 80's/90's were defintley awesome biggrin goog "what if"

I understand what people think they want when they say they want Prince to be like he was 30 years ago - he was the greatest young maverick genius on the planet. We had never seen anything like him. But then I look at his contemporaries - those artists who are as old or older that try to maintain the image or persona that made them famous. Almost each one is a parody of himself. I mean what does a 50+ year old man look like cursing and singing suggestive lyrics? Prince is simply too smart to play himself like that. He doesnt have to because at the end of the day it is about music with Prince - yeah, we cheered for the assless pants and the Telecaster that ejaculated on the crowd but geniuses have to keep moving and growing, Miles Advis understood admn personfied this like no one else in music history. A look back at his career and the revolutions of his music are nothing less than breathtaking. Prince music is still great - the context and lyrics are those of a grown man who has been there and done that and now has something to impart on the younger generations.

thumbs up ... spot on ...

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I think a big "what if" has to be what if Prince had never gone into music, who would be listening to?

I can honestly say I've tried lots of other people and noone comes close particularly when you start to compare talent.
