"The Screams Of Passion" could have been a sizzling duet with Sheila E,and it would have been a huge hit.
a Duet with Susannah might have been more sizzling and the chemistry would have been more real.
Just like on Sheila E's album, I don't see why he didn't appear on the album.
A 3 part vocal Prince Susannah & St Paul could have been really good |

"High Fashion" seems like it would have fit perfectly in 'UTCM'.The lyrics are about a "stuck-up little rich girl".Perhaps Prince should have saved that song for himself and placed it on 'Parade'. |

I agree, or at least featured it in the movie promo 4 the proteges
He did a lot of songs like that about people from different class: Olivers House, Jerk Out, Yellow 2 name a few |

Never imagined that one but your absolutely right. I think he should re-record many songs and release them properly- but without people like Dr. Fink or Susan Rogers or whoever, not sure how that would turn out.
"Everything was great 'til 88"
I also agree! I would imagine that he already has his originals of the whole album in the vault. He should release it now [untouched]! |

This would make a great T-shirt slogan, with a Lovesexy era pic |

Hmm ... I actually like The Family's album just as 'is'. St. Paul and Susannah both compliment one another very nicely on this album. They 'own' it live. I've seen The Family at Cabooze in Minneapolis for Prince Family Jamm and I'm glad they did it.
Prince and Shelby J. performing 'Nothing Compares 2 U' live is not bad either but, I'm fine with it being 'as is' ... again ...

I liked UTCM! I think Prince just wanted to make a wacky movie that was not just based around music. That's like saying every singer who does movies should sing in them. My point is "Raspberry Beret" & "Pop Life" might have been pretty big for The Family. I also think the whole "psychedelic" theme would have worked better for them too....
Yeah I think it was more than just being wacky I think he really did have a deep hope of meaning 4 the film... which is probably why he fought with the director and need to kill of Christopher at the end. He wanted the Kid or his father in PR to die too He also want GB to be a very deep movie.
I think songs like Paisley Park (Prince concept/vision similar 2 Uptown & Erotic City) Pop Life Temptation Hello(bside) were 2 Prince as a star. The Family couldn't truly express those.
But I do agree that the Family could have expressed a lot of those songs & it be well received. A full band would definately have to be in order to perform & appear even on album visually to be believable. Susannah (can play piano I believe) St Paul can play guitar/keys Eric (sax & Flute)-even though he was holding a bass in the Screams of Passion video (can he play bass?) Jerome (non instrumentalist) Mico was the sessions/live guitarist but not officially a part of the Family) Jellybean(drums)
Just to answer your question, OF4S, no Eric cannot play the bass. He said so himself during one of Celebration "workshops" back in 2002.
He said that when it came time to film the video, they needed to find something for him to do in it, since there are no horns on the song. So, they gave him a bass and just act like he was playing. |
