What is the Act I TV Special? Does this exist? Is it a concert from the Act I Tour or something?

I think it was December of '92, two Prince specials were aired on ABC in the States: The first night it was Act 1 and the second night was The Ryde Dyvine. They had concert footage and band profiles. I have them on VHS somewhere but I haven't watched them in ages.

I've only heard of The Ryde Dyvine before. Was the concert footage from the Diamonds and Pearls Tour or was it a Paisley Park thing?

Most of it was later used in the 3 Chains O' Gold "movie".

It was the tour for the O+> album.

So no live stuff? | |

Then it would have been broadcast in 1993.

No... It was broadcast in 1992. It was for the tour, but the tour did not start until March. It was just footage that you later see in 3 Chains O Gold. Part 2 was the Ryde Dyvine concert.

OK
I guess that Act I just a cut down version of 3 Chains O Gold. That would explain why I haven't heard of this before.

Exactly. It's nothing you really have not seen before if you have seen 3CoG. Kind of like the NPG Takes Over VH1 special was essentially just a buncha videos you probly have seen by now, interspersed throughout were scenes of the NPG in the control room.
There has to be a Sound + Vision set out there with it.
Act I, Ryde Dyvine - 1992 Sacrifice of Victor, The Undertaker - 1993 NPG Takes Over VH1, Love 41Another - 1995
Quite a few lil TV specials released around that time.

More info, from this thread: http://prince.org/msg/7/336290.
It was a 40 minute film entitled Act 1 and was first broadcast on 18th December 1992, as part of ABC's 'In Concert' series. The film mixes fictional parts, with interviews and video clips from the album. It starts with a video of '2 Whom It May Concern.' It then shows Mayte walking back to her palace with bodyguards. The rest of this part features Mayte taking a bath with servant girls, her father getting stabbed to death, and then Mayte riding across an Egyptian desert. Act 1 then continues with video clips of 'Love 2 The 9's,' 'The Morning Papers,' 'The Continental,' 'Damn U,' and '7,' interspersed with interview clips from various NPG members. They talk about Prince and his studio work, life on the road and Mayte. They question her role in the band, at which point Mayte appears, explaining how she met Prince and how she influenced the album. Most of the footage in this film was later used in the home video/laserdisc '3 Chains O' Gold.' [Edited 4/10/11 6:54am]
