Prince's most funkiest moment

Kick drum pound on the 2 and 4.....all the party people get on the floor.

Those lyrics and the song, Rebirth of the Flesh are some of the funkiest sounds Prince has ever created.

Of course, we can't forget about Shoadelica, Erotic City and others.

What are your choices? If you dare....were talking true FUNK and erotic city barely makes it!

I'd pick some of those funky base lines and chicken scratch guitar Prince laid down in the early 80's, particularly the long version of "Little Red Corvette", "777-9311", "Chocolate", "Jerk Out", "Controversy"...

I'd even include "Cool" and the opening of the extended "U Got the Look". The most recent examples would probably be "Musicology" and "Glass Cutter".

I mean there is different kinds of funk. Lets face it.

raw funk

Shockedeliaca

Physolscadelicide

One Nation - George Clinton

Flash Light - Funkadelic

Gett off

processed cheese Funk

Chelsea Rogers

Produced Funk

Musicology

Jerk Out

Now

Not sure where sexy MF goes. But it leans more towards the raw funk.

I would have to go through all the albums to categorize more. But I would only do that if more peopel are insterested in this thread.

I think LRC is a little to mellow to fit into funk. Controversy....nah not sereing that either.

Whats interesting is what people are considering FUNK these days. Chelsea Rogers was and still is horrible. Horrible because we heard this before in the 70's and expect so much more from Prince. Yet a bunch of people thought it was funky. Daring Funk was Sex MF, Gett Off. He woudl reach way in there and pull out something nasty! Nasty isn't what he says, it's the way the music sounds. The bending of a guitar, a funky keyboard off key, a thumping baseline that pulls the tiles off the floor. A sratchy off key throught, a drummer who needs a hand replacement. Funk is what makes your head bop and your eye twitchy. It makes you make a face like Aunt Esther.

Do you people even know what funky is? Maybe thats why people are not posting to this thread. They don't know what funk is. Yet everyone talks about it.

Funksters can you join in?

Moments....

The intro to "7779311"

The beat and base in "Musicology", right after the interuption in the middle of the song.

The last 30 seconds of "We Gets Up"

The after chorus instrumental section in "Race"

The final section of "MoQuake", when the vocal come back.

The "Tonight Tonight" section in "Thieves in the Temple".

The Scream in "Black Sweat".

Most of "Tricky"

The last minute of the "Anotherloverholinyohead 12"

The breakdonw in P Control..."I pulled up right beside her..."

I like your analysis. IMO: Funk to me is that certain sound that makes you react and send you back in time to when things were simplier regardless of what moment you are in.

Yes, but it drags with a chicken bone. Another funk genre? Mummy funk (when a mummy walks it drags it's foot). In this case, Prince pulls back...and drags da FUNK! Ah huh. I see we are getting it now!

Superfunky in produced but yes

Black MF in the House - definaetly. Probably in the top 10-20 by Prince.

Lady...of course

Scarlet sounds like Prince copying George.

IB yes under raw funk

Housequake is mellow funk

Lets work is more rockish.

Head has funky keyboards. Not sure if this is a full blown funk song.
