Mediumdry can you give us a track list when your done?

Well.. that turned out to be harder than I thought. So in the end I settled on lucky number 7. 7 compilations that is. All well under 35 songs wink All with a loose theme to them. There's 2 comps where I'm not happy with the flow yet, I may change them still. All regular album versions of the tracks, also by associated artist, unless mentioned. (unless unreleased, in which case the regular unreleased version)

Some of the jarring breaks are intentional (like adding Bob George), some of the weird choices just worked better in the flow (like reversing the order of High Fashion and Mutiny. It's amazing how well High Fashion flows into Jungle Love)

Prince has a lot of types of funk and I think this is a relatively good overview. I'm sure I missed tracks that are unforgiveable (I wanted Musicology and PoomPoom in there somewhere, for instance, and I had to cut the Stick), but feel free to comment.

"Disco"

I Feel For You
Lavaux
Soft And Wet
Do U Lie?
What's My Name
Sexy Dancer (12")
We Can Work It Out
Strange Relationship (ONA live)

Lady Cab Driver
The Dance Electric
Shockadelica (12")
Rebirth Of The Flesh
Hide the Bone
When Will We Be Paid
Mad
Funk
Family Name
Anotherloverholenyohead (12")
The Exodus Has Begun
Joy in Repetition (full version, not segued in)
Crystal Ball
Let's Go Crazy (12")

"Headbob"

Jam of the Year
The Greatest Romance Ever Sold (Eve remix)
Ol' Skool Company
18 & Over
Emale
Return of the Bump Squad
Props N Pounds
Sticky Like Glue
3121
Madsex

"MPLS"

Controversy
Mutiny
High Fashion
Jungle Love
Bob George
A Love Bizarre
Erotic City (12")
Head
G Spot
If a Girl Answers (Don't Hang Up)
The Walk
Old Friends For Sale (first version, no strings)

"PRN"

Kiss (12")
La, La, La, He, He, Hee (12")
Scarlet Pussy (12")
Let's Work (12")

Mountains (12")

"Drums"

The Everlasting Now
Dead On It
Data Bank (Prince version)

"Horns"

Make Believe (Funk version, from I'll do anything sessions)

Black M.F. In The House
Freaks On This Side
Come home
Mellow
Get Wild (Pret-A-Porter OST)
Come
It's About That Walk
The Latest Fashion (Corporate World version)
Pretty Man (un2, not in2)
Adore
She Spoke 2 Me (Girl 6)
Oilcan
New Power Soul
The Sex Of It (Prince version)
Sexy M.F.

And right now, I'm really digging the horn mix. cool

Nice break down ... The first think that comes to mind with 'P's funkiest moments' would be any of the funk numbers he's written for The Time. C.O.O.L., Jungle Love and The Bird never seems to get old to me ...

I second Rockhard in a Funky Place. That song is funky by definition.

George who? Jefferson? Because I KNOW you can't be talking about George Clinton! You're insane if you think TBA is funkier than anything Clinton has done. Insane and sheltered! lol

Some people might not want the uncut funk, because it's too freaky and habit-forming. wink

Perhaps that person prefers funk cut, so that it isn't so freaky or habit-forming. wink

Ya know? They need to man up and take the whole dose, cuz then they'd know what's up! cool

At least the Black Album is sort of chocolate-coated, so it's about 33% funk.

I think Facedown is one of his funkiest songs. Not what's on Emancipation, that's too squeaky clean, but the live version he released on a cassette single with Musicology, when he's going back and forth with Rhonda on bass. So funky it smells like old cheese and socks

Kick drum pound on the 2 and 4.....all the party people get on the floor.

Those lyrics and the song, Rebirth of the Flesh are some of the funkiest sounds Prince has ever created.

Of course, we can't forget about Shoadelica, Erotic City and others.

What are your choices? If you dare....were talking true FUNK and erotic city barely makes it!

THe title should be "Prince's funkiest moment" or "Prince's most funky moment".

With that said, I think the performance of Face Down on the Chris Rock Show is up there as one of the funkiest - as I see no parameters for live or recorded moments. Also 1+1+1 is 3 live at te Kodak Theater in LA on the One Nite Alone tour (I was front and center). Any performance or recording of:

Housequake

Come On

Ol Skool Company

Lets Work

Controversy

Lady Cab Driver

DMSR

Erotic City

Irresistable Bitch

1+1+1 is 3

Sexy Dancer

Head

Sign O The Times

When Doves Cry (just because it is the greatest funk song ever written and doesn't even have the primary funk instrument - bass)

Rockhard In A Funky Place

2 Nigs

...the whole Black Album!

it was the last great prince album. Everything after it has been compromised.

That's just the way it is.
