the more I watch purple rain...

the more I feel that it wasn't really a good movie falloff I mean at the time, it was electrifying..but...

the dialogue is stilted

the plot is thin..

Prince kisses in a really weird way...

How many hallways does the First Avenue Club have, anyway?

Then why don't you quit watching? hmmm........

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Purple Rain is like crack. You know that it's bad, but you don't stop watching (or using). You crave it for the highs, and try to ignore the lows. But eventually, the lows get hard to ignore.

time flies.

The way Prince kisses in UTCM and PR always really horrified/excited me. Its super aggressive, like being eaten alive/spat on/lip wrestled. I really hope he doesn't kiss like that outside of the movies!

Most that have seen it multiple times should be honest with themselves, its a bad ( in a good way ) movie. Budget limits, newbies to scripted acting and I'll assume the naivity of our youth makes it better than it should be. As long as its a staple of at least an annual run on multiple cable channels, it will be our favorite afternoon delight.

I agree, but I'm one of those that just doesn't pay attention to those things that make it 'bad' Just like I don't pay attention to all the little 'bad' things of Star Wars: A New Hope (u can see strings on the ships) but like you said naivety of Youth (Prince and camp) (George Lucas and cast) just makes it so much more. I can't just be youth because people in there 20's 30's & 40's love the move too, my dad and uncle were right there with me watching

Purple Rain is rock film filled with almost real situations and real places & people in Prince's life (I mean even down to the cab driver to the club people just about everyone was in Prince's life/camp and from way back when) so that stuff is the glue that makes PR work and the music is Electicity.

I'm with you there: the 'almost real-ness' of it. Big Chick, Dez, Billy Sparks, Kim, Jill... If only Vanity had stayed on...

PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman!

Oh yeah if Vanity was on, the chemistry would have been turned up between Vanity 6 Morris Jerome & Vanity and of course Prince & Vanity. I liked Apollonia 'innocent' character, but Vanity over all has more character, she was Vanity

it plays like a romance novel reads, imo. nod i don't know if it's true but i heard the original storyline was chopped up a lot in the editing process

I watched PR for the first time last week and I gotta say, he does look like he kisses a little stiff, maybe he was nervous? I mean, the guys not a trained actor. First movie ever? Maybe even Prince gets nervous...? Who knows...lol

I only really liked 2 scenes and they were both performance scenes at First Avenue. "Computer Blue" and "Darling Nikki", I kinda liked when he and Apollonia first hook up, it's kinda sorta hot in a stiff, awkward kinda way...lol

And I laughed at the Lake Minnetonka scene, even though I don't understand why Apollonia had the show her tits there....no bras in the 80's? lol

Where do you live?

Purple Rain and Grafitti Bridge seem to be on at least every three months . . . if not more. Purple Rains seems to come of for a week at a time.
