"If so...why haven't they at this point?" Because apparently they haven't wanted to.
Which should also answer the..."If not... why?"
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

WOW. What a concept. I actually like that idea. nod Their guitar styles would mesh very well together, I think.

But it would have to be an album filled with instrumentals only though. Since, you know, Prince don't like male vocalists. hrmph

i, for one, would love that...Mr. Benson is another one of my heroes. i do sometimes wish Prince would do more collaborative works with people more on his level as a musician. Helping others get there is fine too, but i'd really love to hear him stretch with more higher caliber artists.

^More on his level?

As a guitarist, Prince is nowhere near Benson. As far as armonic knowledge is involved Prince, is in absolute diapers compared to Benson.

I know what you're saying in regards to an advanced Jazz guitarist with deep harmonic knowledge and endless improv skills compared to what's essentially a pentatonic based Rock player.... But, I think the "more on his level" comment may have been meant towards name recognition and other highly regarded musicianship. I too would like to see Prince get together more often with some other ALREADY establshed musical heavy weights...just for fun.

From the good old Databank.org:

Astoria, The

1 CD

Label : New Power Zounds

Catalogue : #NP 150

Disc Length : 72:13

Source : Audience Recording

Sound Quality : EX-

Year Of Release : 1995

Gold / Ultimate Live Experience Tour Aftershow

The Astoria, London

9th March 1995 (am)

1. Glam Slam Boogie 2. Sweet Thing 3. You Got The Love 4. Love...Thy Will Be Done 5. Funky 6. 18 & Over 7. I Believe In You 8. The Ride 9. Get Wild 10. Gold (played over PA)

COMMENT

In comparison to the other 2 London aftershows from March 1995 this is the shortest, and perhaps the least impressive. The recording is of very high quality, but is not without it's problems. There are a number of crackles throughout the recording, and there is some serious distortion on a few songs. That said the recording is impressive with very little audience noise and the show is loud and clear. The show begins with a guest spot from both George Benson and Chaka Khan during 'Glam Slam Boogie'. Chaka Khan stays on stage for the next two tracks before the NPG begin playing their own mini-set with 'Love...Thy Will Be Done'. Their set is short of the spectacular, and whilst it is very enjoyable there is little change from many others from the same period. The show does however close with a great 10 minute version of 'Get Wild' which unusually includes the "Pick a funky outfit short and see-through" rap from the studio version. The release closes with 'Gold' played over the PA, however it is identical to the version released on the Gold Experience album. This is a great release even with the slight glitches during the recording, but the performance doesn't quite match up to the other London aftershows from the same month.

I think that person was saying that is why a collab with Benson would be a good idea.

I think they meant previous collabs have not been at Prince's level

Spot on. That's EXACTLY what I meant.

Regarding the possibility of the 'level' comment referring to another establishment star, I think it's highly improbable unless the likes of Chaka, Clinton, Sister Larry, etc... need some kind of boost.

When Prince collaborates with somebody he makes sure it's not a well established star so that he can hold all the reins and even pull the plug when he gets tired of the project halfway through.

If a big name being involved means being tantamount to Prince then it just WON'T happen.

You are welcome,it's my favorite Benson album

a great collection of very nice songs and great guitar playing,George rips it on that album

every song is great and Npg is supplying the funk

and Michael Bland sounds very different then on Prince's albums
