When did you become a Prince Fan?

The first time I remember hearing a Prince song was when I was 5 (1991), however my mom says she's played Prince music around me much earlier than that. I was in the back of my Uncle's car just jamming out to the sounds of his Guitar and high pitched voice. My Uncle used to wear tight purple pants and a button up shirt that probably came from the women's department. My brothers always laughed. Anywho, it wasn't until about 11 years later that I truly appreciated Prince. I've listened to him for a while but never could understand a lot of the things he sung about. And certain songs I wasn't allowed to listen, tho I found my ways evil. My favorite songs are.... too many to name but you can check out this forum post for the songs I regular.

{Warning a little off subject}
March 30th will be my very first concert. And yes I am very excited excited I haven't been able to sleep well since I received my tickets. I've had nightmares that he'd cancel the concert and I'd never get my chance to experiance what all first-timers do. I've been keeping up with the concert updates and can't wait for my experience.

I've been a fan for over 15 years. When did you become a fan?

Since 1979, and I hope Prince leaves my hometown groveling for more (wish I could be there). You will enjoy it if you try not to be too starstruck. That's what happened to me in 1988 when I saw him for the first time, and was so wowed I only remember bits and pieces.

Totally a different experience in Columbia on the 21st. Maybe it's maturity, but I knew if I ever got the chance to see him live again, I'd remember every. last. detail. And I do. nod Have fun!! rose

Langebleu is right, but I understand how excited you are. peace

I'm trying my hardest to get my game face on. My sister said she passed out at her first Prince concert. This will be her second... Hopefully she can keep it together this time. I was calm cool and collective at the Tyrese concert and he is my second love, not because of his voice but his body eek .

Adorecream

1991 October, when I saw the cream video for the first time, I just thought it was so gnarly and dirty all in one, and realised I had always really like Prince (Aged 15) I knew he was an idol for the taking, and never looked back. Hence why the word Cream is in my name

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I heard Purple Rain back in late 1984 (I was 14 Years old) on the Radio, had never heard anything like it in my (young) life, was hooked instantly. Spent all my Paper-round money on Prince music - lol I remember buying the 12" Lets Go Crazy vinyl and blasting out Erotic City in my Bedroom, much to my Parents horror....lol

Life is short, don't be a dick.

R.I.P Prince - Thank you for your Music, Your Talent and for helping me find out who I was and am.

1982/83 . I was 11 years old and started hearing LRC, 1999, and Delirious on the radio a lot. Then Purple Rain dropped and everyone was a Prince fan that year ! I actually didn't buy Purple Rain until a few years after '84 because I was able to tape all the songs from the album off the radio! First P record I actually paid for was ATWIAD and have gotten every record he's made since the day of release.

In the UK Purple Rain was probably the first time people would have been aware that Prince existed wink I for one didn't know about For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999 until I bought the PR Album and it had that funky purple pamphlet with his previous albums on and "The Times" albums etc.

I do recall on New Years Eve that year, I saw the Video to "Let's Go Crazy" on iirc "The Old Grey Whistle Test" or something like that. Man that was awesome to see at 14 yr's old !! My Parents where giving it "What is he wearing" and "This is just noise" and I was giving it "OMG !!! Look at that Guitar" lol

Life is short, don't be a dick.

Detroit

It was late '79 or early '80. I was a mere 9 or 10 yrs old. I had just met my new soon-to-be stepbrother and sister and they were already into his music. I heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and it blew my young mind that one guy was doing all of that. I've been a fam ever since. When Dirty Mind dropped, I used to sing those songs in school everyday..LOL. I didn't understand what I was singing and had no business singing those lyrics but I knew that Prince was something special. People started calling me "Little Prince". My mother even banned his music from the house at one time. That didn't last for long, though.. cool

I've been a fance since Emacipation Era 1996. My first album bought was the prince for some reason 'My Name is Prince' was my favorite song off that album (at the time). Then Prince's Jam of The Year was in Miami and I had to had to had to, go ... One my favorite shows. Some people (fam) have said it's not one of his best but, since it's my first show, it's MY FAVORITE ... LoL

It's been a great journey and I have no complaints, I've met some great people and made some even greater friends

After seeing When Doves Cry after years not knowing which song and artist it was, It was in my head for years. Saw the video for the first time when I was 6 years old. But I didn't know which artist it was or even what the song called. So after 6 years... saw it again and boom, I was fan! searching for other music of him. and I became fan.. after seeing him in Werchter i was completely die-hard!
