I think the US benefits of the major western orientation towards American Culture.

Therefore I think US artist get more exposure regardless the talent.

Both UK as US have there great rock artist but also a great number of bulk/pulpy stuff.

And not to forget that the pool of people in sheer numbers is a tad bigger ...

OK, I will have to admit.

The US enjoys a degree of influence largely due to the size of its population and land mass.

Although, I don't think you can attribute it to that either. I mean, Russia and the Asian continent it exists on are far larger than the US, but their musical influences aren't altogether significant in comparison either.

The US:

The UK:

As you can see, the state of California, which has hollywood, many of the larger cities, and of course, most of the music industry, is actually larger than England. This puts the US at a slight advantage.

But, in all honesty, Prince could have been born anywhere, and still become a huge star---I'm certain of it. Had Prince been born in Bhutan, we'd be looking at a Bhutanese artist unchallenged by anyone in the world! It just so happens though that God obviously favors America, because we've been blessed by having his talents here on our soil. I think the world should be greatful for that.

Personally, in my own humble opinion, I think the UK is more good than the US, because the US is less good. God obviously made a couple of stupid mistakes by putting Bush, Hollywood, Sex And The City, a weird economic system, chemtrails and the Irish all on one continent. How does Prince fit in there? Correct - not at all.

The UK is simply more balanced as a country. Another reason why the US isn't balanced is because the Rocky Mountains are not in the middle of the continent. There's simply more weight on the left side of the US, just like on Prince's body (but in his case only very slightly).

UK bands' penises don't curve to any side, they're straight.

OMG, google Pete Burns.

His penis totally curves, and his forskin resembles frayed leather chaps. I'm serious!

Hell yeah. If it weren't for blacks in the States, the world would still be listening to dull ass shit. They brought the world rhythm, then white Americans picked up on it, then the rest of the world picked up on it. Unfortunately though, the same group that put the rhythm in the music, their grandchildren have taken the rhythm back out of the music and it has become just as dull as the shit before their ancestors made their impact.

I don't think the black rythim & blues singers had Morrissey in mind when they paved the way for rock n roll. disbelief

I think I read somewhere that Kate Bush had ties to the Bush family of America, though, so does she really count as a British person?

I do think she's pretty talented though, and if you're willing to wait 50 years between album releases, she's often pretty good. But, my lord--her dancing is atrocious!

But seriously, I'm going to google her name to see if she has some ties to Texas.

It's a good point. Mind you, the Prince name implies some kind of connection with European royalty. hmm hmmm

The UK has had some interesting performers---The Spice Girls, Take That, and Goldie Looking Chain to name a few.

But they just don't match the superiority of American artists through the ages. Good old fashioned bread and butter USA artists like Prince, Duke Ellington, Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, The Beetles, and the Charlontons UK just drive home the fact that the USA seems to produce true, endearing musical acts.

Although, I don't think it means Americans are superior to the British, I do think it is cause for some concern. America has Micrsosoft and Apple, Inc. America invented ways of harnessing electricity, the cotton gin, the Internet, etc. etc. And most importantly, America developed Rock n Roll while folks in the UK were still listening to jazz and show tunes (American genres as well) and celtic flute ensembels and such.

Are there any UK artists like Prince? I'm curious because other than Mozart and Beethoven, who died at least 100 years ago, the UK hasn't produced anything since then to my awareness.

Prince is one of those rare performers who can write his owns songs, play instruments like piano, sings his own music (Truly sings--not autotune), etc.

The fact that he hasn't been knighted by the queen is just wrong, and might be an indication of how deeply the jealousy runs on that side of the pond.

I think the conditions that cause rock and roll to be so prominent in the American pysche and the USA to be such a dominent force in the word of music are intrinsic to the US. Prince--like the geniuses of music before him, are as American as fireworks, sheppards pie, and soduku. I love the UK--I really do--but, I'm glad Prince isn't just another Robert Smith (although I do feel Smith does a better job with makeup lately)

Is this an attempt at humour?

FAIL.

Gavin And Stacey is a terrible example of British comedy. It's shit. Try Mid Morning Matters, The Thick Of It, The Office, I'm Alan Partridge, The Day Today, Brass Eye, The Armando Iannucci Shows, Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle, Jam, Nathan Barley, Black Adder.....then maybe you can improve your own "comedy".

Gavin and Stacey is nice because it is Welsh in flavor.

Wales is a nicer place than England.

I think people underestimate that.
