i'll reply to myself (again!) rolleyes

Prince would be up in arms if someone covered one of his tunes and renamed it.I personally think he was wrong to do that.

To be fair tho, the song doesnt really sound that much like the Hendrix original. Its an instrumental/jam with no lyrics .Prince just sings"...machine gun..." a couple of times towards the end.

I don't know about "Habibi", they never gave any info on
the song when it was put up for download.

But I do remember, on the old Love4OneAnother site, there
was an official prince-camp news item that said Prince had
made a cover of "MachineGun" and donated the mastertape to
the Hendrix Family. [yes, the mastertape no less]. I think
it said something to the effect of

"for them to decide when and where it will be released..."

Not sure if "Habibi" is that same song, perhaps it's just
a different take or something. But if he gave the Hendrix
fam the master of his original cover than I guess it would
be ok if he did a bit of a kinda-sorta-cover and put it on
his website.

Which he didn't credit as "Red House" or even "Purple House" instead calling it "Blues Jam" and not giving any credit.
