I dont think my family really understand why I love him so much, they like his hits but they don't really acknowledge him as the master musician and songwriter that he is... THey probably think of him on the same level as Michael Jackson , they dont understand the WEALTH of material he has written.
Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

My brother likes him and has seen him in concert, but he likes all kinds of music. My sister-in-law loves her some Prince, but moreso the "old" Prince...she did not like TRC.

My sister doesn't like him...she's turned off. I think she thinks he's a fruitcake/weirdo. Maybe too sissified/effeminate in the image he's established.

My wife and kids are indifferent to him. This generation is into rap and hip hop.

Most people only know the hits and Purple Rain and so their whole viewpoint is based on that. Even most blacks are going to go with mainstream R&B, Soul, Pop, Rap, HipHop music.
I think it requires effort to like Prince, and most consumers are lazy. You have to be willing to sit down and listen. It also requires a desire to experience more than what was and is on the radio or MTV, VH1, and BET.
I don't really care what my family thinks in the end because it's their loss...Prince has been a sonic adventure.

My sister was the one who introduced me to Prince, when she brought home "Controversy" when I was in the 4th grade. I didn't pay her no mind at the time, but a couple years later, I raided her Prince vinyl collection.

My mom always thought he was pretty. That's all she would say. The lace, the hair, the makeup. Pretty.

My dad--after taking me to the Lovesexy show, which was my first Prince concert--was so amazed by the showmanship and talent on stage, he had to give the man his props.

Since then, they have all endured my enthusiasm and respect it.

My parents and siblings teased me when I was a kid and still tease me now! I think they know it gets a rise outta me so they continue to call him the famous name my whole family knows, that they made up... "Purple Pip Squeak". My parents like his music they just think that he is strange and that I have very bad taste in men. I think they were worried that I would someday bring home a Prince look a like but there is only one Prince I love! They cant believe that after almost 21 years I still hold a torch to this man and just as much now, if not more, than I did when I was young.
He calls me "Holi" cuz he says everyday w/ me is like a Holiday...

My dad was very angry when he found out that I had tickets to see the Diamonds and Pearls concert on Fathers Day. Then he went balistic when I told him I was going with my mum. They'd only been seperated a few months. He thought I was a traitor or something. Took a good few years for the resentments to be let go.

My mother used to like him, up until the point i started to.then she decided to hate him, call him ugly and say he looks, to her "like her vision of a rapist" but that's my oddball, evil mother for you.

evillol LMFAO!

My mother could take him or leave him, but like I've said before, I've been a hardcore fan since childhood - so he's like part of the family! She knows that's all she's gonna hear when she comes over, and doesn't mind.

My daughters L heart VE him, on the other hand. They make requests: "Mama, can we hear 'Thunder'?" My 2-year-old baby sings "The Rainbow Children" all the time, it's the cutest fucking thing: "Wise, Wainbow Children, wise!"

They all hate him. But my dad does at least think he's talented. And a decent singer. Mom just absolutely can't stand him though. And my brother is at the most pretty indifferent to him.
