Wow, Lots of Activity on my Best Ballads list lately

another thread was talking about Prince's voice and how its aged, man i think his recent ballad output has been downright stellar! several tracks have moved into my top 10. his arrangements have been so diverse and layered. (unlike the formulaic approach of classic one name gems like Insatiable, Scandalous, Adore etc.) So my current list has: (in no particular order), lots of stuff from recent years

Better With Time 2009

Somewhere Here on Earth 2007

Walk In Sand 2010

Sea of Everything 2010

Still Would Stand All Time

Colonized Mind (not a love ballad, a rock one, maybe should be a different category but...) 2009

International Lover

Still Waiting

I Hate U

Adore

*Honorable Mention; Future Soul Song (2010; love his voice on this, the lyrical content AND the production, but i don't find myself CRAVING to hear it like i do with these very often

You failed to mention my jam....Here....with that undeniable melody.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Future Soul Song is a masterpiece lol I think time will definitely give the song the props it deserves-Prince's voice on this song is flawless.

no, i HEAR you! Here is my jam too! when i put on MPLS, that's the reason, but i think the tempo is a little speedier than my mind associates with ballads. but i won't be a stickler, it makes the list. def. one of his top 5 overall recent tracks IMO

There is nothing formulaic about Adore.

And really? 5 of your 10 favourite Prince ballads are from the last 2 albums? REALLY?

My Prince ballad list is long and i agree Colonised Mind and songs like Last December should be on there. Maybe not about love, but life and they're thought provoking so "ballad like" mood inducing.

My highest plays are:

Don't play me

You're gonna c me

Sweet baby

Dinner with Delores

Love like jazz

Extrordinary

17 days

Here

Sea of Everything

Walk in Sand

Future soul song

Soul sanctuary

"Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

I've recently been listening to Still Waiting a lot, and I mean a lot. Specifically the Atlanta bootleg version of it.

hmmm, 17 Days and Dinner With Delores as "ballads", i LOVE both of those songs, but not sure they'd be on my ballad list, rather than a mid tempo or "mood list". so, that begs the question, do u think ppl think that a ballad consists more of tempo or mood?

Crucial, probably the best, if we're not talking the standard ballads.

Pink Cashmere's a favorite too.

As far as I know, it's never been released. It's not the Sheila E. song. It's from 79-80 I think.

Someone said what someone saw and now we can't be lovers
Who do we believe when we can't believe each other?
If U and I are lost because of what some people say
Then there's no justice in this world 2day
CHORUS:
Hold me and we can make it through the rain
Hold me and we can weather any pain
If U and I are lost because of what some people say
Then there's no justice in this world 2day
Hold me and make this world just go away

All my life I've longed 4 someone just 2 be in my corner
2 believe in me when no 1 else did, that was all I wanted
And when U came into my heart, joy was all U made
I can't believe this is the same heart that U want 2 break

CHORUS

It seems like only yesterday U said U loved me
U said I was your universe with only God above me
How could U say all those things and lead me on this way?
2 think that I could give U up 4 what some people say
Hold me and we can make it through the rain
Hold me and we can weather any pain
If U and I are lost because of what some people say
Then there's no justice in this world 2day

Hold me and we can make it through the rain
Hold me and we can weather any pain
If U and I are lost because of what some people say
Then there's no thread of justice in this world 2day
Hold me and make this world just go away

Hold me and make this world just go away

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
