In any case The Purple One knows we are good for the money. Not sure if that is a good thing.

1) He'd need to be paid regardless.

2) I dare say Prince isn't too interested in non-African American charitable purposes. Much less international ones (remember "Hello").

3) LOL, Prince don't care about it. He throws it up to God and says do what you will. AKA - he's absolved himself of the need to help cuz the arbirtrary almighty will take care of it (or won't, depends on his arbitrary judgement).

You took that out of context imo. Prince contributed 4 The Tears In Your Eyes nonetheless and I believe Prince meant with the lyric in Hello you're referring to that people tend to forget to look at their own problems and only help solving the big problem that's not so painful to acknowledge because it's so far away. Prince actually advocated help solving both problems with those lyrics in Hello. He just said he didn't feel like singing on the title track.

About Japan, I think it would be cool if he did a concert for them, but then again they don't need him to. Japan is a wealthy country, a lot of people are already donating and the culture there is very disciplinated, which will probably avoid the chaos in rebuilding that's happening in Haiti now. Sure they got a big hit, but as long as that nuclear plant won't go badly wrong, they'll recover. Even if Prince doesn't do a concert for them. So if he's gonna do a benefit concert, I think he's absolutely free to choose the charity he likes to make money for, that doesn't have to be Japan. He might as well do a concert for the hungry in Africa this time wink
You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

But the question was would he do one for Japan and that is something I don't think Prince would do. "Hello" set the benchmark for his beliefs on charitable causes and nothing of his habits since have spoken otherwise. I want to believe he would help, but I doubt strongly he even considers it.

Did he do anything publicly when 'Haiti' happened? For some reason I honestly don't even expect him to do a benefit concert for Japan...That doesn't make him a bad person or anything though....

It's just a personal choice...Ugh watching what's happening in Japan makes me so sad....='(

I'm sorry but that's so stereotypical non-Japanese-person's thought.

Just because Japan's a wealthy country, that doesn't mean they don't need help from outside. And I think you're only thinking of "practical help" such as money...

When someone does a "benefit" concert, it's very emotionally helpful too. Trust me I'm not American, and it's a huge deal when ppl like Prince even mentions name of my country.....

Besides, benefit concert brings a lot of attention. There's so much damage that can't recovered by money. A lot of volunteers are needed everywhere. Not to just fix things that are broken but take care of people like young kids and the elderly who got damaged by tsunami and earthquake...

In addition to that, there are a lot of hardcore Prince fans in Japan as well. I'm sure if he actually did a benefit concert (which I doubt), it'd be a HUGE deal....

But benefit concert sounds more like...something MJ would do...umm...

I think it's funny yall take one line from a b-side he recorded 26 years ago and turn it into his entire political point of view.

He seems like the kinda guy who will donate a little scratch anonymously. But I don't know the man personally. Maybe if he would write another random lyric about his charitable donations I could form a more complete picture. smile

For $1.5M he would do a 85 minute show, yes.

Why comapre these two disasters? They are vastly different. 9/11 was an inside job (yes: mossad and usa are one). I.e.: domestic terrorism. (and yes, that term has lost in value over time; nowadays everyone with a different opinion is a terrorist) Japan's problem is bigger in numbers of direct deaths. Also the cause is so much different. The effects might hit you directly and unavoidably, whereas I can try to avoid whatever legislation, privascy invasions, restrictions on freedoms and rights the USA has put in place and exported worldwide after 09/11.

Katrina is the closest thing we have to compare it with, and even then it's kinda lame to do so.

I'm pretty sure Prince didn't consider to do a benefit concert and you're right he didn't do anything international in charity work since USA For Africa (iirc), that we can agree on. I'm just saying you misinterpreted Hello, because the song doesn't say "fix your own problems before you look abroad", rather the opposite. It's true that Prince still did exactly that afterwards, but you know how often he changes his mind. I think the song is one of the rare examples of Prince actually giving a shit about what happens in the world and you explain it the other way around.

V10LETBLUES

Prince should do a charity for concert for Prince. To pay all the folks he owes money to.

Then..... do another charity concert for Japan.

as a tax wright-off for the first concert.

Then a third "free" concert out of kindness of his heart, out of his own pocket for all of his faithful masochistic and delusional fans that have supported him and helped him pay his debts and supported his tax deductible concert for Japan, where we would donate directly to Japan because we do not trust him with our money.

That would be cool.

How am I misinterpreting the lyric?

There's just as much hunger here at home"

Your first post (reply #6) implied Hello is proof/a clue to Prince not being interested in international charity work, but it doesn't say so anywhere in those lyrics and at the same time Prince contributed 4TTIYE. So I don't get why you would see Hello as proof to Prince not thinking about charity work abroad, it's just about not forgetting there are problems in the USA as well.

You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?
