Alexa De Paris

I looked back on here about this song and it seems like most people enjoy this song. No offense to you guys, but it sounds like generic 80's rock music. So why do you all think it's a masterpiece?Because it comes from the 80's? What makes this better than 77 Beverly Park? boxed

Opinions. Some people like peanut butter, some people like mayonnaise. Some like neither.

Kind of a loaded/aggressive post here, though. "No offense..." Why would any be taken? None of us wrote the songs.

I'm just confused, not angry. Aggressiveness is just the way you're reading this. That's one of the problems of the internet.

No offense is written in my post because I felt that some people might get offended by it.

It's fair to say that being you can get people on here who make a comment and get their asses chewed to dust, but on the Alexa... comment...initally I could not stand the tune being that I heard it on Under the cherry moon first and along with that God awful slow motion sequence when Christopher and Mary go to Dance....but since putting my 12" extended mixes on my iPod, I've come to appreciate it, but that's what yu get with Prince:

Tunes which are like Marmite (you love or you hate)

Tunes which you learn to love eventually or grow to dislike....or hate! razz

Log off.

If you don't like the song, so be it.

But why must anyone tell you why they like it?

I just like the song. I'm not crazy about it. But comparing 'Alexa de Paris' and '77 Beverly Porks' is, yes, OFFENSIVE.

As a tune, I think Alex is average. But its musicianship is what elevates it. This was Prince's moment where he opened up to other contributions. Sheila's drums on it are quite unique and Clare's orchestration is excellent.

Its easy to forget that with Alexa recorded in 85, only 2 years after he was still recording most of his music at home alone. Prince was shifting from a life with snyths and linns to real instruments, solo and groups.

Also, as a pre cursor to Madhouse, it was really showing how prince was growing and gaining confidence with his peers as a musicial himself.

Out of context, I can see how it feels fairly mundane now. But for its day, it was a whole different direction for a kid who had been delivering solo RnB material most of his career.

If I ever sat down and made a personal Top 10 list, I'm quite sure that Alexa De Paris would be in there.

Just because the guitar playing is nice, that doesn't mean it's a good song.

It sounds like generic 80s music for a "play along with the band" type CD.

Log off because I disagree with you? whofarted If you do this for everytime someone disagrees with you, there would be no one left on the org.

Instead of saying "Log off" you could have told me why I'm wrong.

It's definately all the other instrumentation that swirls around it, especially the orchestra

I see. So you asked a question and got an answer. And then rebutted with a major nothing-in-particular non-statement. What was the point of your question again? And why is it that you think it sounds like generic 80's rock music? Please do write some lengthy paragraphs on this so that we can come back here and quickly dismiss it with a very rote, unimaginitve response such as "Well, that's not a very good reason."

It isn't a matter of being right or wrong, my friend. It's all subjective. Some people will tell you why they like it and that's that. No need to justify.

I think you're overthinking it lol .

Those of us who like it (myself included), we just do. If you don't, that's fine.

You don't like the song? Fine: your loss.

Why try to change anybody's views? I don't get it.

^then, explain the rationale behind your post.

The people who like the song won't start disliking it because of what you say.

You won't start liking it because of what anybody says.

So, what's the use in digging and digging?
