Who introduced you or how were u introduced to Prince???

I remember hearing him on the radio, i loved the fresh new sound...... way back in 1982

I saw the 1999 vinyl dobb LP atmy local record stor, feb. 1983......

what a thrilling album it was, never looked back, when PR was released I was "sold" to Prince forever.

I got a record player for my birthday. My mom sent her secretary out to buy some records. She came back with Uptown on 45.

I believe it was 1982 when I first heard "Do Me Baby". I couldn't believe anyone would record a song like that. It was love from that moment on.

I think I was like 6 and my mom was listening to 'When Doves Cry'.

Heard his song on the radio..." I wanna be your Lover"...1979 on WBLS in NYC

My sister introduced me to Prince's music in 1984-85.

I became a fan myself in 1985 when the Purple Rain show from Syracuse was televised in the UK.

Then became a more serious fan in 1986 (collecting etc).

I gotta give my momz props for my very first Prince song (on the radio) that we danced to when I was a shortie (Sexy Dancer). It wasn't until I went to my Aunt Frankie's house and heard 'Controversey' the first time, on my own. Didn't 'get it' until Emancipation Era tho ...

My mom intorduced me when I was 3-yrs-old. Controversy had just come out, and my mom would put it on the record player and she, my older sister, and I would have us a girls' party to that album. To this day Controversy is still a part of my top five Price songs just that reason.

1999 the single fan ever since.

I remember being little and my older brother playing when doves cry, erotic city, purple rain, kiss, rasberet beret, etc.. around the house.

not much later, i remember overhearing him say that Prince had left The Revolution and that he had formed the New Power Generation. I distinctly remember paying close attention to the tv and the '1999' video came on, and in my baby naiviete, assumed THEY were the NPG lol. Gimme a break, i musta been like 4 or 5. that is my first vivid memory of Prince!

I remember some of my high school friends telling me to watch Video Hits on Sunday morning to see a particular music video that they were all excited about.

I did so, but was somewhat unimpressed. When asked about it on Monday I replied, "I didn't really understand it. It didn't really have anything to do with cream..."

I was a very "young" 14 year old

After that false start, it was my older sister and her friends that got me interested. I loved "My Name Is Prince" and ended up buying for my sister for Christmas, before borrowing it so many times over the next two years that finally she just gave it to me

One of her friends brought over D&P on CD (CD!!) which I had to listen to on my sister's stereo because I only had a walkman. This friend noticed me listening to it over and over again, so the next time she came over she'd copied it to a tape for me

After getting a Brashes voucher for my birthday (any Aussies remember Brashes? lol) I wondered if Prince had released anything else...ahem...so I visited the record store.

I grabbed the most interesting looking tape out of the sea of Prince tapes - it was completely black.

So the girl that, a year or so ago was confused by Cream, was now listening to TBA. A lot.

The biggest twist is that, for various reasons, I didn't buy another Prince album until almost a decade later. I'd just moved out of home and my sister gave me her old stereo (that was now 16 years old) as a housewarming present - first time I'd owned a CD player that wasn't part of a computer.

I'd just discovered Amazon and wanted to try it out. I thought, "I wonder if Prince has released anything in recent years?"

The most recent available was TRC, so I ordered it. A few weeks later, it arrived.

So, with The Black Album being the last Prince album I'd listened to, I popped The Rainbow Children in the precious CD drive.

Definitely something had changed...I couldn't quite put my finger on it, lol!

Apart from being too slow on the uptake at NPGMC (and thus missing out on some online-only releases), I was completely hooked after that and grabbed every album from TRC onwards, as well as backtracking and getting Purple Rain.

It was really only last year that something changed again and suddenly, I had to have it all. I've slowly (well, across months) managed to fill in all the blanks.

TRC and N.E.W.S remain my favourites, but , D&P and TBA will always have a special place in my heart because they were on SUCH high rotation right through my mid-late teenage years

Same song, different situation. Some kids at my brother's high school BB game were jamming this gem on their boombox. A BIG shoutout to the guys at that Middleton High School JV basketball game in the fall of 1979, Charleston SC. Thank you!!

My brother used to play it in the car when I was a child.

I didn't get into him on my own until 1993, though.

During a break during college, I hung out with this friend who was

a musician every day. He was obsessed and would point out the

intricacies that is found in P's music. He had all the albums and movies.

We would spend all day listening to Prince.

After that - I was hooked.

My older cousin's ex-girlfriend. We were on our way to one of our family reunion. They were playing the "Dirty Mind" cassette. I had to be in 4th or 5th grade, probably 4th.

But it wasn't until Controversy and 1999 (esp. 1999) that I lost my musical virginity to him.

How? 1983 Solid Gold - Little Red Corvette. When I saw him sitting on that drum I was done! I was 12 years old and remember just sitting there transfixed by him. He was/is so beautiful and the music...I was speechless. I had no idea why he had a pocket full of Trojan horses! lol Talk about an education!

His music has made my life so much better, I wish I could tell him how much I appreciate his talent. Sadly, I've never seen him perform live. That is something I hope to rectify as soon as he comes to the midwest.

Became a fan when the "1999" album came out. Loved "Purple Rain" but became a HUGE fan when "Around The World In A Day" came out. Started collecting around the time of "Grafitti Bridge".

Ahhh.... those were the days!
