I wish there was some sort of reverse purple rapture where all those who focused on gossip mongering, his bills, his recent girlfriends or wife, and just basically about the nonsense that has nothing to do with the music would go to internet hell and be off the purple internet.

Bored fans. I have yet to see ANY evidence of him being interested in guys. And even if there was, I wouldn't care. It's irrelevant to my enjoyment of him as an artist.

I will never for one second believe that Prince does drugs. If I found out that he did, I would be BLOWN AWAY. It just doesn't fit; like you said, he looks happy and healthy and always has (except for a brief period in the 90's and I just think he wasn't eating well then) as for being bi, no on that too.

What trips me out is how people worry that other people may think Prince is gay. I mean hell, you can't even compliment the man these days without people getting pissed.

I dont't care much for the gay rumor crap, which is not even true.

That last part is what rings true to me, with that said, it has me remember that the world doesn't revolve around me or Prince for that matter, it never did. I've always wanted my man P to be happy along with Wendy, Lisa, Dez, Andre, Mark and all the rest of the Purple Funk Family, I like to call em. I wouldn't wish anything bad on anyone, for that matter but, you want the best and you want people to thrive and be happy. P's private life, I do not care so much about, I just want my man to be happy, ya know.

If he's with Misty, cool ... If he's with Bria, cool ... If he's alone, cool ... It's all about the music and the message (the lyrics).

It is and should be about the "art" of his music.

All we should really care about is his music but here's the problem with that, as I see it around here.

Prince's really good music is his music that's at the least 15 years old. His great music is over 20. When that music is discussed around here, it's often met with gripes by the new era of Prince fans that those who enjoy discussing that music are "people living and stuck in the past". Because all we can do around here is discuss and reminisce on our memories. We can't let the music speak for itself because we are prohibited from posting it in...any kind of way.

Then there's his newer music. While there have been some gems in the bunch, they are too few and far between. The majority of it has been mediocre by Prince standards, at best. When that is discussed around here, it's often met with gripes by the new era of Prince fans that those who do not particularly enjoy every single note of that music are "people living and stuck in the past". Because all they (the new era of Prince fans) can do around here is exclaim and chant about how "Prince and his music has grown, matured and changed." They can't let the music speak for itself because they are prohibited from posting it in...any kind of way.

So we have different people with different ideas of Prince's music, going 'round and 'round in discussions that gets them nowhere and the conversations on the art of his music has declined, significantly. What's left is Prince as a person and his private life and that's become a free for all because it is what it is and apparently, that's the way HE wants it!

I'm more about the music and the history. His private life (girlfriends, finances, religion) doesn't really factor in for me (unless the girlfriend has a CD as well). The rumor mill on here is amusing at times but 8 times out of 10 it's just negativity. I'd rather kick it on topics that teach me something I didn't know before or help others with information.

I am indeed fascinated by everything about the man, his music, his life, his associates, almost everything. ..He is literally the only artist that I have bothered to join a public forum to learn more about. I don't have that kind of time to belong to a series of forums interacting with some absolute nutcases like I've witnessed here.....that I would never have the displeasure of interacting with in real life. This place can be downright scary. But I remain because it's not all bad.

With that said.. yes.. the recent rumours and speculations about him have been really intense. Some folks really need some fresh air and to just step away from the computer for a while. It might do wonders.

I for one wish Prince what I wish for myself..nothing but the best.

Sadly I think the replies in this thread answer your question.

I admit I'm interested to an extent in his private life, but I'm much more interested in his music.

I know I should just avoid a lot of threads here and I do think people tend to discuss them ad nauseum more out of boredom and/or procrastination (ie. "something to do") rather than being sooo interested in whether or not he pays his bills, etc... So I guess in every case it just takes someone to start a thread and many will play along (unfortunately, whether you intended it to or not, this one demonstrates that perfectly).

I found it so refreshing today to read the thread about the new concert dates, as there was just joy and excitement as people woke up and saw that he was about to play near them.

Now, even that thread has started to deteriorate

I've heard it said before and I agree absolutely - anyone who studies human behaviour and psychology would have a field day with this site!

i guess to an extent P loves to cause controversy, he always has since 'Dirty Mind'. So you could argue that he helps to fuel the rumours through his art. If his ethos is that everything you need to know about him is in the lyrics then you'd say he was 100% bi-sexual i.e. his style of dress in dirty mind, the man/woman symbol first used in Purple Rain, I would die 4 u [i'm not too woman, i'm not too man..], Camille, the lyric to Anna Stesia etc.

Likewise he fuels the debate/rumours about his love life by being high profile with his latest girl i.e. Bria, Misty etc.

Following that arguement should P have any right to complain about fans speculating / spreading rumours? I guess it's a dilemma faced by many other high profile people out there. Personally It still is about the music and I'd rather speculate as to whether he's still 'got it' or not.
