As many have pointed out the change of sound, trying to do something different is what makes this album outstanding.

The lyrics may be confronting to many, but Prince has always been preaching. Anyone can take what they want from the lyrics, I just take the music.

I always play this album back to back with the Black Album, so I dont come under the spell. laser

Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

The album is fairly poor for Prince standards. Too much Darth vader and too much JW nonsense. The only true classics on the album are The Work Pt.1, 1+1+1 is 3 and The Everlasting Now.

It gets: star star star

I don't want to throw the music critic card on this one, but I have to more than agree with the music critics on this one. Even omitting the ton of mostly negative reviews, Meta Critic gives this one a low 54. If they actually compiled more national music critics it would be a hell of a lot lower.

I can't help it. I have even given this really dumbed down piece of work more than enough spins, and just cannot get into it. Cheers, or rather my condolences to those than can tolerate it.

I would put this at the bottom of Prince albums next to MnplSound. MnplSound which received a much higher 62 on MetaCritic lol

In that case, yes, you should shoot yourself. But don't delay, do it today, do it now!

Totally love TRC, thanks 2 u guys. When it first came out I hated it. When I join this site and kept reading the comments behind it, I would give it a try until one day it clicked. I could not believe the beautiful music of this album. 2 me its one of his best ever albums. It gets more play than any other cd I have of him.

Yeah, the "the work and 1+1+1=3 are the only good tracks" attitude is a lazy one. Like saying Kiss is the only standout on Parade - FAIL.

I don't heart Musicology, but it's still a good album - star star star and a 1/2

I heart 3121, but there are a few filler tracks - star star star star

Planet Earth has mostly average songs - star star star

And I think 20Ten is possibly his worst album. Either that or Rave. - star star

It's on my public profile in chronological order (except New Power Soul is in the wrong place), so no best to worst yet.

I don't think Prince sounded like Prince again until 3121.

I get what you mean by that, and 3121 is a strong album, but IMO it is lacking the quality that made each new Prince album in the 80's not only fun, but surprising and exciting for being new musical experiences. 3121 is a good collection of Prince-ish songs, but it works within pre-set boundaries, and TRC expanded the boundaries, as did Purple Rain & Parade & Lovesexy.

I would NEVER put those two on the same level razz - just saying picking the most obvious 'funk/pop' songs on an album as it's only saving grace is lazy.

Parade is on a whole other level to pretty much any other P. album out there cool

Oh, you beat me here. I was about to edit out the "freaks" and "fail" part and soften the post a bit.

I do not care about you guys liking TRC. Enjoy. That's what music is about. And sorry about the "freaks" and "fail" that is beneath me.
