hi...just wondering whats the best concert you have ever seen ?...prince or not....mine.....i have two.....both prince......one nite alone tour.....london hammersmith....sat 5th october 2002....just amazing....going to the soundcheck...and then the 3 hour concert in a small venue ....playing the lesser known songs and being in the front 10 rows.....i coundnt speak afterwards as i had lost my voice from singing soo much.........and the last night of the 21 nights at the o2 arena ...london...21st september 2007.....far bigger place ..near 20,000 capacity but what an atmosphere....fantastic experience.....seen him about a dozen times but these two stand out for me......so whats yours ?.....prince or not....

Prince was amazing but didnt have the same "fun" vibe george did... I danced my ASS off at George's concert....

saw tori amos at glasgow pavilion....92 or 93....amazing voice and songs....she went too weird for me after her second album (strange thing to say being a big prince fan ! )....but i still like her...

I didn't even like Tori Amos until I saw her in concert (a friend dragged me along) but she put on such an AMAZING show that I have been a die hard fan ever since!

easily Prince (with GCS) at Wembley Arena - 1998.

GCS played The Jam and prince came out and did the guitar solo. Then Larry G stayed out and played Bass for Prince.

I attended many concerts of different and popular pop, rock, RB, rap, soul, jazz, etc. artists and every concert was the best, I was very pleased. Only 1 time I was disappointed is with Lionel Richie concert, nothing special or exciting, although I like him very much.

Gotta agree George Michael was fantastic at the Birmingham NEC ( Now LG Arena ) even went to the first gig at Wembley Stadium on the back of it although the sound and the crowd weren't as good.

For me also David Bowie's last tour was fantastic, Worst sound I'm afraid Robbie Williams at Croke Park, Ireland,promised a free gig what happened to that !!! the most boring The Christians- harvest for the world yawn !!!

The most fun I have ever had at a concert was the Kid Rock and Run DMC show back a few years ago. I have never had so much fun at a show.

The best stage show I ever saw was Kiss. Unbelieveable!! and I dont even like them that much but what a show!!

U2 and Aerosmith's Get a Grip tour was great too!! Prince was good too but his shows always have segments that are really good and then segments that are not.

My number one would HAVE to be KID ROCK!! What a blast!!

Empire Club Vegas 2006 show (the first night) including souncheck; Butter Restaurant, NYC 2006 show for fans and 3121 Club Vegas show, opening weekend.

How can you pretend every fucking Prince show has bad segments? I have seen him 46 times on stage and there are many of them that were just sheer perfection from start to end.

I have seen GM twice back in the 80s and his shows were so average that I can hardly believe he has suddenly become an amazing performer.

Moreover I preferred it if you had the honesty to say you haven't seen Prince in many occasions and NEVER at his best (PR, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy).

It's like these people who thought Bowie was shit live back in the 80s and who had never attended a Ziggy Stardust gig.

My favorite gigs ever:

Miles Davis (Montreux, Stockholm) / Prince (Parade - Zenith - SOTT Bercy - Aftershow Forest National 95) / Bruce Springsteen (he kicked my ass so many times I'm not gonna bother listing all those gigs) / David Bowie (his last tour was bloody fantastic btw)

BUT my best ever is by very very far : Prince - The New Morning 2010.

I'll never witness such a moment a pure genius, perfection in my life. Totally unreal.

it's funny that i've been to a few of the shows others have mentioned, and they pale compared to some of the shows i've been to

i've seen prince play an accoustic set at paisley park, i've seen him rehearse, soundcheck, i've seen pink floyd play with roger waters, i've seen paul macartney so close i could (and did) touch him, i've seen things you people wouldn't believe, attack ships on fire off the shoulders of orion, i've watched c beams glitter in the dark off the tannhauser gate, all those moments lost in time like tears in the rain, but maybe the hippodrome aftershow where he did the war live, and at 5.30am kicked out hits when people were waking to go to work. maybe the rock nite at the celly, maybe the night he played superstition, keep on running and the balad of dorothy parker in the tangerine suit at the indigo2. maybe that accoustic nite at the celly, with norah jones as support. maybe the last nite he played the aftershow in paisley park where he played a medley of purple rain and adore after i was onstage dancing to covers of classic funk jams like brickhouse and skin tight. maybe that aftershow party at the garage in glasgow, that was a shit hot gig. one other hot non prince gig was justin timberlake fronting NERD at an aftershow party for mtv, it was just like one of the best prince aftershows. to me, the cafe de paris was an incredible experience as i was front row in front of the mic at a tiny gig and it was like like he was playing a private show for me, it was broadcast on tv, released on video and prince stagedived on me 3 times, and the follow show i got onstage. so maybe cafe de paris or the accoustic nite or the rock nite at the celly. all so great and so different, it's like picking my favourite between chocolate, cheese, steak and wine, all great but different

i've been very lucky to see GM a few times, including both shows that made up his only officially released live dvd/bluray, and i must say he was fucking brilliant, but he just sings and each show is pretty much the same as the last apart from track changes. the arrangements are the same. the difference with prince is he can play the same song 10 times in a row and it sounds different each time. i've seen him play songs like the album, in an accoustic style, in a rock style, in a jazz style, etc, just jamming them and making them breathe. few artists can do that, and none can do it like prince

i was also lucky to see bowie play the hammersmith appollo the night before prince played there. bowies first time playing there since he killed off ziggy in the same venue 30 years before, a fan club only gig where he played his best stuff for nearly 3 hours. absolutely fucking fantastic, the most amazing audience completely full of thousands of the most die hard fans of one of the biggest cult stars of all time, i was the most casual fan in the place as everyone else there would have literally killed for a ticket as bowie's tour at the time was a promo only deal, only a few small venues, tickets not available for sale on the usual basis

Just to make my position clear I have seen every Prince Tour in the UK and SOTT in Dortmund and all were excellent but life isn't just about Prince !!

Each Prince Tour has been excellent in their own way I am just expressing my opinon on other concerts INXS and Simple Minds at Wembley Stadium were excellent but REM just doesn't do anything for me at all.

Not everyone can visit Paisley Park and be at every aftershow and spend countless thousand of pounds watching every concert.

Enjoy your life and enjoy listening to live music !!

By the way my favourite live show was the aftershow of the last night of O2 shows !!

Doesnt make you love him anymore than I do cuz you got to do that... Just makes you lucky you live somewhere that you can do that...

I choose the concert I had the most FUN at... In the end thats all that matters... Please dont belittle someones descion because it differs from your own... thats just arrogant and rude...

Best concerts I've seen?

Most exciting: Polyphonic Spree, Toronto, 2008.

Best musicianship: Rinsethealgorithm, a Toronto Jazz/fusion quintet, 2010.

Best overall experience: Dead Can Dance, Toronto, 2005.

I've seen a ton of shows. But the best have been:

Prince - Musicology

By far the best show. Saw it at Madison Square Garden, then drove down to Washington DC to see it again. The DC show was even better.

Springsteen - 2 years ago at the Meadowlands in New Jersey

I'd seen him a few times before and thought he was ok/good. But the show at his home stadium was off the hook.

David Bowie - Glass Spider Tour - 1987

Tori Amos - 1st American Tour - 1992

Saw her in a bar in Minneaplis (Fine Line) that holds around 200 people. The COVER CHARGE was $5. She spun a trance that was so amazing nobody wanted to break it by clapping when the songs ended.

I forget the order of the final songs, but he's playing "Let it Be" and you think, this must be the finale, what can he play after this? And then he starts "Hey Jude" and you think, "oh, yeah there's that". He does 3 or 4 of these and you realize how astonishing his musical history is. I could have done without the 50-60 year old women screaming "We love you Paul!!" non-stop for 2 hours though.

Tony Benett at the Apollo Theater

Just a few years ago. A Christmas show. He's over 80 years old. You think, "Ok, I'll cut him some slack on his vocals when he comes out and sings, he's old!". Then he comes out and nails everything PERFECTLY. What a talent. The one funny moment was when he had to get a cue to come back in after a piano solo. He knows all the other songs by heart, but this one was on his new christmas album. The song during which he needed a cue from the piano player? "Jingle Bells".

Leonard Cohen was fantastic and inspirational seeing him in 2009 at the age of 74, not least to do with the fact I had front row centre seats.
